I am working on something similar to NEED FOR SPEED car racing game.
Im just curious if anything similar has been done with darkbasic before? I did a "search" but nothing really came up. Didn't see anything really simlar the showcase either.

I cant seem to get the smooth curves and gentle slopes using a matrix. Ive opened up a TRACK EDITOR for NEED FOR SPEED and can see its track is made up more of a MESH type object to give smooth curves and slopes for the track.

Does anyone have any ideas or examples how this would be done in dark basic?

My version is very close to the quality of NFS- just without the gentle slopes and twisting turns. The demo is too large at 49megs so I cant supply a download yet but you can see some screenshots here...

A couple of examples that I've seen (http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=12778&b=5) tend to use full 3d meshes (.x, if you will) for the tracks....

Can I ask you a Question?
What is it?
It's an interrogative form of sentence, used to test knowledge. But that's not important right now.

DarkGT is another game which is similar to NFS. There's a topic in work-in-progress.

to make smooth matrices have at look at the my codebase entries for smooth matrix and matrix hills, just select view matrix snippets.

Wow, checked out the screenshots. They are awesome! I thought of making a racing game, never really was up to it. I think that your game could turn out really awesome, as long as the control is good, you get more cars, and you get this track thing worked out. Right now are you using a matrix and positioning the car to the matrix height?

I wish you the best of luck for your game.

thanks for comments people....

- Yes im positioning the car's height to matrix now.

- as far as the demo size - its about 49megs (my site already has many other downloads) so i have to refine that download first.

49megs

You could model a track then use the KDLL for collision - tat's give fast, quick sliding collision.
