I'm using 1.18.14 with WASP mod and I'm having problems getting fire [edit]and steam[/edit] decals to show up. I've searched the forums and I can't find anything that helps.

I'm using the 'smallfire' decal, with 'decalparticle.fpi', custom settings = on and I've fiddled around with all the x,y,z, settings, but I just can't get any of the fire decals [edit]or the steam decal either for that matter[/edit] to show up at all, and yet, I can hear the sound for them when I approach their position

I can get smoke and dust puffs working no problem, its just flames [edit]and steam[/edit] that aren't working.

Can anyone help please, I'm getting to a criticle stage in my game's development, and I can't pass it on to my play testers until I get this problem sorted, so any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance

Is that down to FPSC or WASP? Because it wasn't working before I reinstalled WASP either :S

Plus, like I said, the smoke and dustpuff decals/particles work, so why not the fire and steam decals/particles?

Don't use the "decalparticle".fpi but the decal.fpi...should work

or

try to move the decal "up"....maybe its under the ground due to misplacment... check in a wide open map best

OK thanks, I'll try those. Are the fire and steam decals not particles then?

@Wolf, nope, tried those; tried the 'decal' script, tried moving it up in case it was 'underground'; still nothing, starting to think it's an FPSC bug which needs reporting...

the decal animation must be 4X4.
Nothing else will work (I don't know why)

Here is an image of the particles working (badly) in the latest WASPV2, so I would guess that it isn't WASP or Beta 14, which at least eliminates those as an issue. Just in case it's not obvious, it's the flames (generic, smallflame) on the right which are using the particles.

It could be that your smallfire decal is messed up, open the decal in image editor and take a look at the alpha channel it may be that its all black which means its transparent and not showing. This would make sense as your other decals work fine and they are all the same image layout. As the particle system uses the first frame of a decal for the sprite it may even be just that frame thats wrong

Since other decals work the issue must be with the decals themselves, check em thoroughly. Try swapping out the decal itself in the folder for one that does work and see if it stops working (and vice versa), it may be the decal specs (scale, offset etc).
Compare the specs with working ones.

Thanks rolfy, but I've (sort of) got it sorted. I vaguely remembered something a while ago about the repeatsound script causing problems with decals, so I swapped it for appear1 and the decal now works, but with no sound. So my problem now, is how to restore sound to my fire decals pmsl!

Any ideas?

Looks like someone got mixed up when creating particle system as it calls sound in both the repeatsound.fpi script and the partiscle script itself.
You could try continue to use repeatsound.fpi and remove the action loopsound=$0 from the particle script or keep it as you have it and try changing th actions to loopsound=soundname in the particle script.

I got it sorted, I added 'runfpidefault=1' after 'setalphafade=100' on the 1st line of the repeatsound script.

Thanks for everyone's help with this

Was just going to say its the repeatsound script that activates the particle decal. Its funny how sometimes the order of actions or conditions can result in failure of a script to run when it shouldn't really matter.

It's one of the reasons I try to avoid scripting as much as I can lol
