I think the number of 3rd party apps and Mods for FPSC has grown a lot and justifies them having boards dedicated to these.
Perks to having these boards would lead to less time searching for the apps, less posts asking for support for mods and apps in FPSC Chat, less chance for the apps getting lost in the back pages in FPSC Chat.
All in all, developers wil be able to release and support their apps and mods with less confusion.

Will everyone else including moderators please post their thoughts on this.

I can see the advantage in having a separate thread/sticky (apart from the master sticky) for modes and apps, but I don't know about separate boards. Also, I would not want to see an open board which would quickly get filled with "other than actual apps and mods" postings and we would not have done a bit of good when it comes to finding something. I'm still for a closed thread where only one person can post and only mods and app info is posted.

Perhaps you can go into more detail on your thoughts.

I would also add another board for Mods and Apps, so we can easily find them and don't have to go through the whole product chat.

So I say, go for it!

Maybe that would do, but I was talking more along the lines of having separate boards. FPSC 3rd Party Apps & FPSC 3rd Party Mods

NickyDude, my own app isn't ready for a real release, I was speaking in general for all app and mod owners, but I am aware of how to get my app listed in that board.

I just think the great apps and mods get lost in forum and would make it easier for us and more importantly, newcomers to find them. This would benafit the app and mod owners along with those looking for more apps and mods.

I agree, there is so much discussion on the FPSC Chat board that some threads can get lost and buried. Plus it makes it easier indexing for people to click onto that board and see 3rd party mods/apps in one section of its own

Yes, I like the concept but I'd like to hear more on how it will be controlled. If anyone is allowed to post in a "3rd Party MODs" board, it wont be any easier to find the actual MODs. People will just start new posts to ask questions or get support and it will look just like the present boards.

How would it be done so that it is easier to find MODs and Apps than it currently is?

That is a good question.
Maybe the same kind of control that is implimented in the WIP and Showcase boards? Maybe make it a rule to not post in those boards unless you are posting an app \ Mod, providing support, asking a question specificly about an app \ mod.
Any other ideas?

Yes TGJ, that's the line it needs to go down. The only threads in there should only be from mod/app developers, but people can post inside the relevant topic, but not be able to create random threads about any given mod/app, it should go in the thread about that specific mod/app.

Okay, so maybe the ability to control who can start an actual thread? Say, the mod \ app owners' , after approval from the moderators and only after they have a mod \ app at the stage it is actually worthy to release?

There are a few problems with this that I see.

1. TGC do not like to add new boards.

2. It would be an additional thing that Moderators have to watch over.

3. Moderators would have to delete/move threads that are not supposed to be in that board to begin with (just look at the WIP and Showcase Boards occasionally).

I'm not saying it's a bad idea; I'm just saying that you'll be adding to the Moderator's existing workload (of which we are unpaid).

KeithC, can these boards support single moderation? IE: Mod/App developers will have moderation over that particular board? That way its down the developers to muck in and keep it clean?

That would be nice, if TGC was willing to do it.

I suppose if someone were serious and willing to take the time, a well-thought-out and detailed proposal could be sent to whoever would make such decisions at TGC. I always find this to work well when I want to implement a new business product or service. When you can explain the advantages and show how it will be provided and maintained, you can normally win your case.

I see what you are saying...
I have seen another forum that gave the adsense profit ( I know it isn't much, but it would be something) from the forum to the primary Moderator, maybe TGC could look into something like that.
Or maybe it is time for TGC itself to think about actually hiring an un-biased moderator, through the means of some kind of profit share. I know there are many FPSC and other TGC product users that don't frequent the forums, but none the less, the forum is a big part of TGC and should always be improving.

I think that would be a good idea, where in like mentioned before. The app \ mod owner would get approval before making a thread, then the thread owner would have moderation abilities over their own thread. Not sure what moderation levels are possible with whatever forum software they are using though.

I wish there were a simple answer, there isn't though.

I think this sounds like a good idea and I would be willing to either be given moderator status over that single board (for free, no payment required) or have all developers of the apps/mods become moderators so we can keep it clean ourselves

Or, after having a think (and reading xplosys's post):
I don't mind making a proposal system so people can write a proposal to have their app/mod accepted onto the board.
Successful proposals could be decided by the users of the community voting or by a small group of moderators/ selected users of the community. Just a thought and it might be a bad one, if so then ignore it

Well there is one answer to the moderator issue.

In all reality, I'm not sure anything will actually happen with this. Would be nice though.

Are there really that many 3rd party mods/apps that a whole separate board is needed? There are a fair few listed in the sticky that lead to dead pages.

I'm also not a fan of voting for which apps/mods are chosen for the board should it be made. These things inevitably turn into a popularity contest. Add becoming a moderator if you make it onto the app/mod board and everyone is going to be making apps/mods simply to become a moderator (maybe not everyone but a fair few)...

Just my opinion
