I was thinking about making short games that would all be part of a series. They would be short and not take to much time to make, much like the VALVe Half Life 2 episode games. I was wondering how you think this idea would fare? Should I take an episodic approach or just make it one large game?

Well you see I...ummm....

I think this is a good idea. This way you can finish your project instead of having a large one that goes unfinished.

Well hopefully it would unlike the half life episodes because they didn't speed up production of the games at all

Good Idea.

-You are more likely to complete smaller episodes and stay motivated/focused.
-You don't have to worry so much about optimization and "will my game build?"

There's probably more reasons, but I can't think of them right now.

That's what I was doing with "he is coming...". It was (or is going to be!) split into 5 separate games: Town, Hospital, Car park, Subway & Underground.

I reject your reality and substitute my own...

I like the idea of episodic games, sometimes time is tight and diving into a game you know you can complete in a single sitting is what you want.

I also agree with xplosys, shorter games are easier to maintain motivation on.

My advice would be to maximize replayability with each level so that people want to play through it more than once. Maybe offer alternative routes are solutions?
