I just thought I would open a dialog of discussion on Mods and the Masters who make them. I have been on this forum since the beginning of FPSC and have seen them all. WOW is the word to put it lightly.

Why doesn't TGC just hire or buy the code from these Mod Geniuses and just create the Ultimate FPS Game Creation Application? Everyone is just off doing there own thing and just basically creating many versions of FPSC. The mods and the wizards that have created them are incredible so why not collaborate to create the ultimate game making application?

Is it Money? Pride? Vanity? Legal? Etc? Maybe. If so, can we break that barrier? Am I the only one that has thought about this? I don't believe so...it is too obvious.

Maybe one day it just might happen!

Please chime in if you agree or disagree. I could be wrong.

I am on both sides for your comment. On one hand it would be cool to have the features of all the mods into one, But on the other hand i understand about source privacy. Alot of people want to keep there creations a seceret, And i am sure if lee wanted he could code all the features into fpsc, But he also has other plans im sure. Most mods here that are available is not open source. Some sell there creations some does not.

My software never has bugs. It just develops random features.

Some mod developers have and still are contributing to the official source. A few modders have, in fact, been hired by TGC freelance; while others have offered their code to Lee for integration into the official version. So in short, it's already happening.

Obviously I cannot speak on behalf of TGC, but most companies who go for an open source type approach do so because they want the product improved, but they don't want to incur the cost and the risk in doing so.

It's a prefectly respectable way to do business and has big benefits for both the software developer and the user community.

The big issue for TGC in taking in code from third parties and making it "official" is the level of risk involved, as any mod could potentially have support issues, which may not be obvious at first.

This is even more of an issue when you consider the following, how generally applicable is the mod, and how might the mod compromise future development plans that TGC may have.

I applaud them for their caution, if at some future time I dedide to make a big time investment in creating something with FPSC, the last thing I want is code made buggy by some mode which I will not use, converesly if there is a mod which has features I would like to exploit, then if it is buggy, at least I will be using it from a position of understanding, and be able to make an informed ridsk/benefit analysis.

I honour the mod developers, whether they are producing code for love or money, and wish them well with their coding

For now I'm not a part of the development team. Though neither is Knxrb. We weren't exactly fired, in Lee's words we are "suspended" for the time being. Lee had told me he'd rehire me when he's in a better position (hopefully thats soon ).

To be honest though, I assume I was "suspended" because I have a feeling after V118 FPSC will have another "hibernation" for a while.

It's more than likely that once V1.18 is properly out, there won't be an update to FPSC for quite some time while they concentrate on AGK.

I reject your reality and substitute my own...

A good deal of AirMod has gotten its way into the official source, both from me giving tidbits to Lee and, if I'm correct, the larger portion is thanks to Hockeykid

Almost certainly. AppGameKit has a lot of potential, and I doubt they want to divide their time up considering it looks slated to become their next flagship product.

Does anyone have any idea on really how much got into 1.18 and what specifically it was? I see so many great things in many mods especially: third person, camera movement, weapon inventory, swap weapon, flashlight, etc but I don't see any of these great ideas in 1.18.

Who chooses what goes in? Is the community involved?
