I really hate to ask this, considering the fact that I've already used a lot of free media in my game!

Has anyone got an FPSC ready model of a computer network server bank cabinet type thingy?!

I've tried the search function, with the usual results (ie, nothing!).

I'm sure I've seen one somewhere on these forums, or on a 3rd party site somewhere, but I just can't, for the life of me, remember where!

Of course, if no-one can help, I guess this would be the perfect opportunity for me to learn 3D modelling!!

However, if anyone can help, I would be extremely gratefull

Try model pack 2, or look in the TGC store for model pack 2 items. It includes 3 computer mainframes. http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=view_product&id=2027 In the TGC store they are only 20 points a piece. That's about 60 cents for all 3.

Thanks, but not quite what I had in mind.

I've got computers and mainframes, what I'm after is the glass fronted server cabinets that connect banks of hubs in them.

I've had another look through the forums and other sites, but still can't find the one I saw a while ago. The memory's not what it used to be!!

Yes, that's what I'm after, but in a glass fronted cabinet.

Sorry, I thought I'd made myself clear about what exactly I was looking for.

I've searched for suitable textures so that I can make one myself, but again, I've had no luck.

I'm no texture artist either, so there's no way I could even begin to make my own texture from scratch.

Like I've said, I've looked everywhere for the one I saw ages ago, but I just can't seem to find it again!

Ok, I've made the mesh for my server cabinets, but now I'm struggling to figure out how to texture them.

Blender and Wings 3D are about as clear as mud when it comes to giving instructions.

The tutorials I've found are next to useless; "lets texture a sphere" WTF, I don't want to texture a sphere, I want to texture my cabinets!!

I've got the images I need to make the textures. I've got images for the front of the two types I'll be making (thanks to Xplosys for those), I've got individual textures for the sides, rear, top and bottom.

But how do I put them all together in a UV map?

I've tried LithUnwrap, but I think they must have had lessons from Blender and Wings on how to write unclear instructions/tutorials!

I'm about tearing my hair out, I mean, how hard can it be?

Maybe I'm just too old and long in the tooth to learn new stuff like this, but any help or pointers would be much appreciated!

Can you take a screenshot of the model? I should be able to remake it in wings then show you how to unwrap it properly.

Nothing to show I'm afraid. Although I have an image to use for the front of the server cabinet, I've not applied it to my 'blank' mesh. The 'textures' I said I'd made for the sides, top and rear, are just black shapes, that can barely even be called textures!

@ henry ham; Thanks a lot, I've attached the images. 'servers1' & 'servers2' are the images that xplosys sent me via email.

The other two images, are my rather poor attempts at making textures for the top, bottom and sides of the server cabinet!!

I was going to try and make 2 models, each using 'servers1' and 'servers2' respectively, as the front. I was up until late last night trying to figure out Blender and Wings 3D, but ended up getting frustrated and gave up! I also felt a wee bit embarrassed about my inability to make even a simple oblong shaped model

Anyway, I only really need 1 model with 'servers1' as the front.

[edit] @ Design Runner; Sorry, the way I was feeling last night, I wasn't even able to figure out the 'show edges' that you mentioned. I guess I really am too old to learn new stuff!![/edit]

Yes, apart from the fact they're not in a glass fronted cabinet, they're almost exactly what I had in mind

I think even unmodified they'd fit perfectly in the data centre section of my game's 1st level

Super! That must be the UPS unit on the top of the stack. It's lit up but it's not plugged in.

Don't you remember back in the day, Brian? Our UPS systems had that cage with the wheel for the hamster to run on. That was before we discovered we went through a lot of hamsters to keep power running for a week.

@ Henry Ham

Nice work there, mate. Always impressed with your style.

You fit in with some of us, so no worries there. My wife said the exact same thing when she hit that tutorial. "What does texturing a sphere have to do with texturing my house model? One is square, one is circular..." I almost choked on my coffee when she blurted that out. Now she can do it in her sleep- even released her first pack. You'll get there, but there are some of us that are willing to help you out if you need it.

@ Little Bill; Thanks, I've already got henry ham's server model to use, but I'm sure someone else will find a use for it, why not post the model here for other people to use?
