I'm not ready to release the URL yet as I am still developing the website. However, I decided to create a new FPSC-related site in light of the fall of FPSC Files.

The website won't be like that site, however. Among "downloads" I plan to have articles, guides, in-site BOTB, and more.

I'm writing this as I am looking for permission to post about and allow downloads of various user-created content and mods to the website. Credit will always be given where it's due.

I am also looking for anyone interested in writing for the site. If you have good English skills and would like to contribute, and maybe get your name out there a bit more, please let me know.

All takers can contact me at lumberjackawesome @ gmail.com (without the spaces). Or alternatively you can simply reply here.

I am a pretty busy person. Along with trying to make my own game I have about a dozen other projects which require my attention. So I would love to get some writers and content that I can simply add and forget about for a while.

Firstly, I am always interested in writing articles for websites, but that of course depends on the site. I am a little particular as to where my name, content or writings are published. That said, I would need to see the site before making any decision.

Quote: "So I would love to get some writers and content that I can simply add and forget about for a while."

In my experience, that just won't work well. If you're going to create a site that's more than just a repository of files (I plan to have articles, guides, in-site BOTB, and more) then be prepared to spend some time to both create and maintain it. They just don't keep themselves up well.

I'll be looking for it.

Brian.

Please don't advertise your site in another's thread.

On topic: what xplosys said is pretty accurate. You will have to maintain it pretty well.

Will you be allowed to use their trademarks and images on the site?

I would personally like to participate in writing for your site, however, I do agree with xplosys's comment. If you are able to maintain it, I'm excellent at writing reviews, and I'd love to put my opinions in a more formal format than the simple praises we give here. Assuming that you get all copyright information, permission, and other issues sorted out, consider me as one of your candidates, once we've all seen your site first, of course.

On another note, I must point out that if you make a site related to these forums, you might have the meticulous problem of everyone keeping their respective usernames, so no one impersonates the likes of say, Errant AI or bond1, or any other well regarded member of the community. If you can pull that off, I'd be genuinely impressed!

Lastly, you should look into sources of revenue from your site, such as unofficial, new model packs, or add ons. Things of that nature, you know? Im not saying it's mandatory, but I would like to be compensated for my efforts, and I'm sure you'd get more journalists willing to work for your site as well. Like I said earlier, if you could provide a simple medium for people to sell and distribute model packs that aren't large or robust enough to appear in the TGCStore/Site, you have a potential way to generate money like FPS-Files.

Whatever happens, good luck!

I understand and agree. That's mainly why I would LOVE other writers. I guess I misspoke and I apologize.

Simply put, I'd love to throw MY articles, guides, ect.. up and forget about them for a while. I would love additional writers to maintain fresh content.

@Dillionaire what do you recommend for verifying authentication ?

And lastly, I'm not super worried about revenue. My server and accounts are already paid due to my many other projects so it comes with little consequence toward money. I may, however, throw one or two Adsense ads up in the future.
I do like your idea, too, about releasing unique content through the site. I'll look into a system for that.

Just so those interested know, the system is ran off Wordpress software. I would be more than willing to give reputable members their own login information to write articles. I'm debating whether or not I should set it to auto-approve articles from said reputable members, however.

And
"Will you be allowed to use their trademarks and images on the site?"
Could you clarify this for me?

Sounds good.I have to agree with Dillionaire here. If you canactually get respected members in your site... then branching off of that and adding a place to sell products, that is one great site .

Cheers.

@underthegun

If we put some thought into it, I bet we'd come up with a system of authentication involving email. Members here on the forums could email you with their usernames and what they would like their passwords to be. Then, you or another site manager could set up their accounts, and as usual, a notification email would be sent to each member, in which they would confirm their account. Thus, from that point forward, each member would control his/her account independently, and you would have no further work to do.

Now, this a a long stretch, and highly unlikely, but if you could get a Mod or someone who manages this forum to pass along the necessary information, you could potentially sign up an account for every user of this forum using the same username and password as these forums. Like I said, I'm not sure if every member would give consent, but you could make a thread where people who would like an account on your site could give their permission. There are lots of possibilities, but it's just limited to your effort and creativity.

As far as Wordpress, I'm unfamiliar with the program, and if I would have to purchase it, I again would encourage that you find revenue from your site so that you can pay authors like me for making the plunge and getting the application. Possibly, on a per article/article length basis? That would sure give me incentive to come up with new material periodically!

I'd love to write articles/guides etc for your site. In-fact, I suppose I could throw together a segment pack for you to upload too.

Also, I completely agree with Dillionare about the email authentication. It seems like the more viable option of the lot.

I am a moderator for FPS-Files, and am always available if you need some help. (If you need a moderator, I am willing to do so as well, but I'm not sure how often I will be on).

Hey guys,
I've been out of town much of the weekend. Just updating you so that you don't think I've abandoned the project. It's still a go. I'm not happy with my current design so that's what I plan to work on tonight. I'm hoping to have something launched this coming week!

@Dillionaire that's def. an idea but it would be a security risk to TGC's servers/web host. WP is a free software and widely used. It's no skin off my back.

Hey guys,
I'm about ready to launch. All I really need now is more starting content. If you would like to write an article, maybe a guide about something, or submit your game for review please send me an email at lumberjackawesome @ gmail.com (minus the spaces). Don't worry, credit will be given where it's due. Be sure to include your name or the name you would like to appear for the article. Also if you would like to include your own site URL feel free to do so.

If possible, include picture(s). People like eye candy.

Please note that for most users wanting to write for the site I'll need you to submit something post-worthy in this fashion. If I like it, and I'm sure I will , we can discuss creating an account for you on the site to submit posts more easily.

I'm currently using a random domain that I had stored. It doesn't fit FPSC per-say but it could def. be brandable.

Without releasing the domain name is this acceptable or should I just shell out the $10 for a new FPSC related domain name?

Update: I don't want to triple post.
I very much want this to be a community-oriented web site. That said, I'm always looking for input. For categories I have the following,
Articles
Best of the Best
Exclusive
Featured
Game Making Tools
Game Models
Game Reviews
Guides
Interviews

Are these ok? Should any of them be renamed? Am I missing some?

Just to be clear to all; the Official Best of the Best is not part of this new site.

Hey underthegun!

I have a few questions...

So, do we email you our content, or do we email our wish to be a part of your site?

For your domain name, I suggest that you do choose something FPSC related. It won't feel tied to this Forum Community if its name has nothing to do with it. Also, we can't make an informed decision unless we know the domain you already have picked, but if I had to pick the better option, it would inherently be something FPSC related!

Lastly, here are some recommendations for the categories:
-Articles
-Best of the Best Competition
-Featured Games/Media
-Game Making Tools/Software
-Game Media
-Game Reviews
-Guides/Tutorials
-Interviews

Great job keeping us updated, I look forward to this!

Yeah I'm inclined to agree about the domain. Great tips for categories.
As for the content. I'm wanting anyone interested in writing and getting an account at the site to send me their first article, interview, or just piece via email so I can make a determination as to whether they would be an asset or not, you know what I mean?

@Dillionaire do you have AIM? Could you email me your username?

Excellent!

Now, about my content, if you give me one day I'll have it ready for you. I'll of course send it via email. Is there any particular format you'd like?

I actually do have an AIM, but I don't have it installed on this computer. I'll install it tomorrow when I wake up!

great! When you do email it to me!

No particular format, any style you want. Include images/pics if possible but I guess that really depends on what you're writing about.

Alrighty, I'll fire an article your way when it's done. The segment pack is going well too, should be a nice little pack.

We can't forget the scripts part of FPSC so lets add that in the categories. Honestly, scripting is my strong point. I'd love to do an article for it. A script Pack or two? With a little tutorial on scripting for the nwbs. Let me know if it's ok for me to do an article.

The category could be called:
Game Scripts

I was just again appreciating the complete syntax PDF here compiled by Ched80 and thought of your site. Don't forget to include this type of indispensable resource, by host or by link.
