I wasn't sure if this should go here or the scripting board so forgive me if it's in the wrong place....

I have created a custom eye damage hud for my WIP. The hud has multiple colors but when I replace the eyedamagehud it only shows as a red image when my player takes damage in game. That is obviously by design in FPSC. So my question: Is it possible to turn off the red FPSC assigns to the eye damage hud?

BTW, If the answer lies in changing the setup.ini file if you could explain how that works I'd appreciate that.

Any help would be appreciated. In my WIP the player doesn't take "damage" per say and red doesn't exactly fit with the theme.

Thanks in advance.

Simply replace the eyehud.dds in gamecore/huds folder with your own and your good to go, no additionals changes needed.
If its still not working for you, your doing smething wrong, make sure you have the right folders and file name to replace.

@rolfy, I may have been a little confusing in my post but thats what I did. The hud I made has multiple colors. However when the player takes damage and it displays on the screen it has a strong red tint making it look like just shades of red.

I think it must be a setting within FPSC but I'm still learning and can't figure out how to change it.

Did you past the new HUD you made into the old file? There might be something wrong with the settings on your .dds or the RGB layers and whatever. Try saving the HUD as a transparent png and changing the path to it in the buildgame and see if that works.

I'll try that. I honestly have never tried to change anything in the buildgame settings. If I do that will it only show up that way in final built game or in the test level as well?

I understand that buildgame implies the built game but I'm still not sure how all that works.

Thanks for the responses.

EDIT: After giving it some thought I did notice in Alpha Project that the damage hud looks like broken glass and is not red. Is it possible it is because he uses PB and you needd a mod?

I mean change it in the globalscript, which you can edit from the Build Game > Level Settings menu.

Alternatively, try just using any other hud element (the 'health' image, for instance. instead. If that appears in correct colour, you'll know it's an image problem and not an FPSC one.

I have changed all the huds in my globalscript (health/ammo/numbers) to custom huds. The only issue is with the eyehud. When I get to my laptop I'll post screen shots.

(Again, not to over stress this, I appreciate the help. My frustration is in not getting it to work.)

I will also double check that the image 9 (a .dds) didn't save in some weird way.

change the setuplevel.fpi in:
languagebank\english\gamebank\mygame

:state=0:hudreset,hudx=50,hudy=50,hudred=128,hudgreen=0,hudblue=0,hudsizex=1024,hudsizey=768,hudimage=gamecore\huds\eyehud.tga,hudhide=1,hudtype=2,hudmake=internal

Change it to hudred=128,hudgreen=128,hudblue=128

@rolfy: Thanks! That did it.

@EVERYONE ELSE: Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I thought it might have to do with settings but hadn't had to change on before. I added all the other hud changes using the global script boxes.

Thanks again. My WIP is coming along nicely. Slowly, but nicely and I owe a lot to the forum members that have helped me along the way. I hope to have something in the WIP board soon so everyone can see exactly what they have been helping me with.
