I have one of the early versions of DBP from about 8 or so years ago I reckon. Usually I install from the CD then grab the update. However on Windows 7 it will not even read the CD. It will either eject it halfway through or hang for ages and then behave as if it is a rewritable disk with no content. I did a quick check and installed fine on XP.

A quick check of the forum and I couldn't see that anyone has encountered this. Are there any suggestions for a fix? Is it possible to exchange the old CD for a download code or something?

why not download the update, then use the cd to activate it
or download the free one and then activate it with the cd.
one of them might work

CD should work with windows 7 as I know I've done it on mine.

Unfortunately that didn't work I get the error

Your CD is not a valid TGC product. Ensure the Dark BASIC Professional CD is in the drive. (ERR:202)

but it doesn't even seem to be reading the CD.

If you bought it through TGC you should have an updated activation key on your user profile. Go to the main page and click on My Account on the top of the screen, My Products, then hit Activation Keys.

First get the one HowDo mentioned (the free version):
