Well, it's been a while since I've checked on these boards and mainly out of curiosity, how good is FPSC now? Expecting biased opinions of course but any old-timers willing to tell a fellow old-timer about the new features I shoudl be drooling over?

I remember there was talk of parallax mapping and such, what curent projects should I be looking at to get an idea of the BotB, or is Wolf still hogging everyone's love here?

I lost my FPSC case and disc in a move, so sadly I can't join you...never really was that great at it anyway, and UDK was just too feature-packed for my own good. I'm happy to just check up for nostalgia's sake.

So did the Migratino happen, or is Lee on Valve time?

FPSC is like totally awesome dude......check out the Scripts forum for the sticky with the full syntax list.

Lee is probably busy with AppGameKit now, but yes, he took care of FPSC first.(with some help from his fans, like Hockykid and others)

The "migration" has happened in the form of v1.18. As far as being "safe" to use, well if you know what the limits of FPSC are, you'll be fine. Still lots of stuff going on behind the scenes with FPSC. As far as parallax mapping...yes it can now be done in FPSC (with lightmapping!), although I haven't publicly released it yet - will be in a summer model pack.

Can we see what you've accomplished with UDK, or at least point us to a WIP? I've dabbled in UDK myself, and I've found that besides making things look pretty, it's difficult to actually make anything resembling gameplay. So I'd like to see what a former FPSC'er has done with it.

Why are you pretending you haven't been around the whole time? Is this another experiment?

CoffeeGrunt,

I am not an "old timer" of FPSC or this forum, but I can tell you that even during the time I have been using FPSC it has improved a lot! I am sure I don't push it as far or hard as many people do, but it does what I need it to do.

Dark AI, Fullscreenshaders, watereffects, shaderdramarama to the max, (where you still around as they added variables? =D) and lots more...

Most important is that FPSC seems to be really stable and running smooth now. It even loads savegames. I'm still not sure about that as it is too good to be true.

If anyone can tell you that its Bond1. Maybe Dark Goblin aswell...one of these two will get it to work sooner or later.

Of course he is, even though he does not exactly know what that means..no, seriously XD

I would say take a look at Beyond Life Rebirth, Dark House, Alpha Project and some cool stuff on ther german board.
And if you find the time to look at mine...

Shavra - Dead Frequency

Relict

Children of Dagon (no images yet)

... I would like to hear some opinion. The more critical, the better.

I believe that TGC would resend you are copy...you are a well trusted member if it comes to my opinion

Migratino would be a nice name for a cocktail, wouldn't it? =D

And yes, as far as I know..it happened.

Thats true... I made a few nice temple levels with it myself but I never got anything more to work than a door.

I make serious coffee - so strong it wakes up the neighbors.

@Bond1

I managed to get into coding my own weapons and vehicles, even cracked how to get a reload sequence working.

As far as projects, the problem with UDK is you spend so long tweaking and retweaking things. Like materials, I'd just finish my latest revision to improve performance, then discover another technique that allows slightly better detail, and it's back to editing them again. It's a truly beautiful program, but not built for one-man devs.

In all honesty I've gotten bored of Game Dev for the moment. So much drama with bug-fixing, etc.

@Xplosys

Another experiment? I don't remember there being any others.

And yes, I've mainly confined myself to Geek Culture/3D Chat lately, but figured I'd pop by...for old time's sake 'n' all that.

@Gendestroier

Thank you...not sure if this counts as "being back." But hey, it's nice to browse the showcase and see what's what for once.

@Wolf

I'll probably just buy a new copy. I've got a job now and all that, is it still £30?

And way to plug your own projects.

And I've told you a million times not to exaggerate.
CG: I think in many ways you might be in a better position to evaluate the improvement than many regulars. I know when I came back to FPSC (after 6 months gone) I noticed the changes that had been made were dramatic. And equally, since many people become so used to FPSC, the gradual nature of the changes made makes you not notice them.

If I use the analogy of a newborn child, if you were to see it every day for 3 years, you wouldn't notice the growth and the changes in the way it looks. If you were to leave when it was born and come back 3 years later, the changes would be stark...

...why am I comparing FPSC to a child? A child's certainly less stressful.

Eventually I will probably pick up a new copy and give you my verdict. It'll have been two years this November since I left it behind.

Hi CoffeeGrunt

As a relative newbie (been reading the forums since mid 2010), it is always great to see the names reappear who influenced your own ideas, knowledge and development.

Even after you "left", your posts continued to teach and inspire. Just like all the other "old-timers"

Regards
