I'm aware that such an application already exists, however I'm bored and have nothing better productive to show at the moment,so I started doing this.I used a generally different method than Lee's application (Or SceneCommander's).

What can you do :
- Select a model in .X or .Dbo format via file dialog (open)
- Toggle on/off the model to make limb selecting much easier ([E] key)
- Rotate the object(Y axis) along with the limbs of course ([R] key)
- View the polygon count on the triangulated mesh

From 1.1a and up :
- Toggle on/off the object's wireframe ([W] key).Easier to determine in which category the limbs are(head, arm, leg, etc.)
- Change the application's resolution/window size via config.lmb(can be opened with notepad). If the first two rows are set to 0,then the application will run in maximized mode and take the native desktop resolution.

New in 1.2 Alpha *

- User controlled anti-aliasing (Fixes the text cut-off error). Can be set in config.lmb (last value)
- Added 500x500 unit grid for sense of scale as well as guidance. Can be toggled On/Off by pressing the [G] key.
- Added ability to Export data structures for the limbs and set limbs to their respective groups (1-6).The user just has to left-click on a limb and a panel will open up to set the limb's section. Each section has a specific color to make it easy on the user(recognition purposes).
- Added 2 unnecessary help pages (About and How to).
- Added ability to move the camera Up/Down by holding the right mouse button and dragging the mouse up/down.

No takers? Oh well,I tried.

Would an animation feature make it more interesting (viewing animations)..?

Hey Gencheff,

This looks good, not managed to download it yet, but I'll give it a go as soon as I can.

Hmmm I can't actually get it to work - just can the "Limb viewer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I don't suppose this program is compatible with integrated GPUs?

I'd need a bit more information than that. What OS are you running, your PC/laptop specs?

I'd assume it has something to do with the GUI and the forced style.

Then my best guess would be the forced style.Considering XP doesn't have Aero,I should have seen it coming...

I've added a new download (1.11a).You can switch on/off the forced styles, just open config.lmb with notepad and change the 4th row from 1 to 0.

Thank you Gencheff!

Great work,
Akanto

I believe I should put a smart comment here, but I wouldn't have time to think about it.

I'm a big fan of Scene Commander's version but it doesn't work in W7-SP1 so Ive been using this one a bit over the last few days. Although lacking features (in this early alpha stage), it's a nice app and looks to be a solid foundation as well as being easy on the eyes. I really like the ability to hide the model as well. Nice work so far, Gencheff

edit to add: Only had a minor issue with it. Sometimes the tops of the limb IDs get cut off. So, a "0" looks like a "U" and so on.

I didn't know this. A rebuild has fixed the issue, I'll get a copy to Lee.

@Gencheff, sorry to hijack your thread. Great work.

@Errant AI , Thank you for the feedback,I really appreciate it.I've been working on the application today and I think you'll be pleased to hear the new features I've added.
@Scene Commander , No worries,I don't see it as hijacking at all.

New in 1.2 Alpha *

- User controlled anti-aliasing (Fixes the text cut-off error). Can be set in config.lmb (last value)
- Added 500x500 unit grid for sense of scale as well as guidance. Can be toggled On/Off by pressing the [G] key.

- Added 2 unnecessary help pages (About and How to).
- Added ability to move the camera Up/Down by holding the right mouse button and dragging the mouse up/down.

Note* - If you want to export the character's data, you'll have to specify an extension for the file,do not leave the file name in the save file dialog without an extension.

Note 2* - I've removed the shader panel due to stability issues. It will be implemented in a next release.

Shameless bump for the folks who haven't seen this yet.

On another note,is there any point in updating this, not much(if any) interest is shown?

Gencheff has also kindly uploaded this app as a torrent:
http://devstorm.co.uk/darkbit/details.php?id=73

Have you ever considered creating a thread for this in WIP? I think a lot of DBPro people would find it very useful.

Looks useful. I am downloading now. Will check it out. Need to get a handle on the limb detection for polygon collision.
Thanks

You seem to have this problem a bit. Try running as administrator.
