I have been thinking baout doing this for a while. I have played several games with subways in them I think the best part is that they are moving.
So I decided to try this in fpsc. The textures are not finnished, and there are a few bugs to work out. but here is a link to the proof of concept video. Also a pic of the car model interior, the top pic is just arender the bottom pic is ingame

How would you make the whole thing move through an enviroment? And, would you just put the subway in a cirle; looping it to give the appearance of moving through an underground tunnel?

Great questions GunBarrelGuru

The original idea was to go from one end of the cars to the other, I saw it in some resident evil game, and dead space 2.

How would you make the whole thing move through an enviroment?

The subway doen't move the enviroment does, I made a 3d model of a tunnel then filmed going through it, and looped it.

Nice work so far.
It somewhat reminds me of the beginning of Half-Life 2

@Zwarte

You clever clever man! All that woulld be left to do is add some ambient sound effects and lights that flicker to give the illusion of going past lights in a tunnel. Ideally the subway should shake a little, but that's just nitpicking

Nice work, my only criticism is the texture of the seats looks like leather whereas most subway cars are plastic for money reasons, got a good reference here...

Texture update is looking real nice though the caution sign is a bit repetitive... its usually at different heights throughout the car, not just one set level. I also agree with Deathhead about the seats.

Keep up the great work!

Cheers,
Anayar

The texture looks much, MUCH better. Good job ZP. Can I ask you to add back a few of the caution signs atleast? I know I told you to move them, but by the doors and stuff there are always caution signs

Cheers,
Anayar

Here is an update on the tunnel wall texture.

@ anayar I put the caution signs over the doors, they just didn't show in the pics.

@ bruce3371 Thanks I'm trying to get better at texturing.

@Xplosys Thank You, that means a lot to me. This whole idea came from your subway models.

@vent Thank you, I'm glad you likey

@bruce3371 Thank You, I'm just trying to get as good as anayar.

@Shadowdeath Thank you

@uzi idiot Thank You. Would it be ok if I had "uzi idiot" as graffiti some where,
it just seems like the name of a tagger. Hahaa.

Well the ideas keep coming, and since I have to build and texture 3D models for the tunnel,
Why not make them segments. After all they are textured 3d models, Right. Also I have to build,
basically entity models for the animation. So I guess the moving subway will be the icing on
the cake....lol

@ KeithC Thank You, I think you are right.

@ henry ham Thank You, I hope to get to your level of skill

@ anayar You dumpster texture is way better, than any of my textures but I'm getting there.

Here is a pic of a sgement of the tunnel I'm going to use for the animation. Now I just need to make several different textures.

This has certainly come along way. Excellent work!

To reminess about some of the great games/First person shooters that have taken place on subways I note the following:

Blood 2, Max Payne, Half Life, Half Life 2, and Spiderman.

@Gunbarrelguru Thank You, I haven't played any of those games I want to now.

@2Beastmode4u Thank You

@Shadowdeath Thank You

@ crysis Thank You, wait till you see whats next.

Here is a shot of the tunnel segment ingame, I will have to change the tracks but other than that I think it will work.

I think when I'm done with this project I'm going to do the same techniqe but wild west thhemed so When I get Disturbing 13's western characters, I'm ready to go''lol

ZP,

I love the tunnel segment textures, but the floor just doesn't seem to fit. It looks more like an outdoor segment where the rain washes off the stones perhaps. Every subway floor (track) I've ever seen is very dark and dirty from the metal dust I would guess. I don't recall ever seeing individual stones. Do they use them other than outdoors?

Brian.
