Wings 3d is pretty good, but you should get one of the pay ones, as they are far superior (exept if your good at blender)

Blender is by far the best FREE software out there. That being said though, Wings3D isnt too bad (Dont have much experience with that), but doesnt have as many features as Blender.

But really, I recommend you invest $30 in buying a decent, payed modelling program. Milshape is one of the best in its class (pricewise I mean)and Id also recommend Fragmotion for its animation capabilities.

If you need more info. be sure to ask

Cheers,
Anayar

Hello,Im not trying to be a jerk in any way But there is a search feture for this fourm,this toppic has been overly descused many many many times and to be honest Im sick of having to re read the same thing over and over agian.So,next time you have any questions please do what I do,search.I think I have searched ever single question before I have ever asked and if you search my threads you will see how little questions I do ask.Dont get me wrong,its ok to ask anything,I have asked some questions myself,but not many becouse I use the search feture.

my signature keeps being erased by a mod So this is my new signature.

I use wings 3D.

Making someone's day a little better because of one of my models means a lot to me.

Truespace is the way to go. A few points:

* Free
* Easy To Learn
* Compatible with DB and FPSC right out of the box
* Innovated animation system (IK - physics - MC )
* Free..I mention that one?

Blender. all the way.

Put it this way,
As an industry standard, 3DS Max is used. Thats very expensive.
For a company that cant afford that, Blender is the next choice.

Its the Sub-industry standard. for free.
If you want to learn how to do things properly and become good at whatever you plan to do, you can go beyond that using a program like Blender.

I have updated my email adresses. Please go to my profile for the updated information (If you need it)

I'm going to back up Josh. Truespace is what I learned with, and is an excellent program.

Id pick Truespace over Blender (sorry)... IMHO blender just makes everything MUCH more complicated than what it should be. But as I said before, an inexpensive though primitive option is Milkshape which should be enough for you... atleast till you move to bigger and better things

Blender is by far the most superior program for under $2000. The newest version has a great .x exporter and a ton of things some of the paid programs cant do. I have used the trial version of pretty much every program out there and nothing under the $2k mark even compares. Personally I use 3dsmax but not everyone can get hit by a car and get a $55k settlement

TrueSpace would be my next option for the free ones. I am not a big fan of Milkshapes animation tools and lack of a good UV mapping tool but is decently easy to learn. AC3D is awsum to model with but has no animation tools. Does have some good UV mapping tools tho.
