//Information

"ESM Shader Update" searches folders for existing entities or segments and extends them with the selected shaders, optionally it also allows to rename the textures (Texturname becomes Texturename_D2 and a Texturename_D copy is created) and to create a backup of the entities & segments.

This allows to make all entities & segments shader-ready in one go, aven the _N & _I shader textures are automatically generated by the application!

However, this program is only meant to be used for existing segments, if you want to create new shader-ready segments: Model Maker 2.0.5.

//Features

Shaders can be selected
Different shaders for floor & wall & entities
Renaming of the textures
Backup Creation
Backup Management (Restore & Delete Backups of the original Media)
Automatically generates Normal- & Illumination-Maps

Sounds very handy!
I'm guessing it will only rename all the maps from coppies of the original diffuese, so it is just making it compatible with shaders, rather than making them 100% shader ready?

Correct. The current version will only add the selected shaders into the effect fields of all segments / entities and rename the textures, but will not generate any kind of shader map.

However, the new version, that's currently in the works, allows the generation pf normal and illumination / specular maps on the fly.

Thanks guys!

Version 1.1.1 released. This application now allows to automatically generate the shader textures (Normal Map & Illumination Map) and features backup management.

Example screenshot of two segments made shader-ready using ESM Shader Update:

Another great and useful applet, Tim. You certainly come up with apps to help make our jobs as developers as easy as possible.

Thank you.

My God this shader is epic.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

Hey, I've tried your software on the stock WW2 segments with several stock shaders and metro theater shaders, and each time I got this, no matter which shader I applied. (see attached)

Am I doing something wrong, or are the stock segments not compatible with the ESM - Shader Update software?

The past is getting longer whilst the future grows shorter.

It's a great new update. But surely generating maps isn't really handy as you can get more out of it by hand-crafting it. But still good litl software tho.

Help bugs!

Not related to this software. Have seen that bug on multiple occassions and it also happened to users that weren't even using ESM Shader Update, afaik, it's a hardware problem.

Already tried the example segment bond1 provided with the shader?

Anyway, just updated the ww2 segments with 1.1.1 and it worked fine, although I noticed that the floor / ceilings textures didn't recieve any shader maps (looking into that as we speak).

Well, I can't reproduce what you're encounterng, since updating the scifi segments worked fine for me, but the application has "backup management" integrated, that allows to undo the changes.

Tested on v1.17.

@Doomster
I did it before i sent that question, it didn't work.

Tested on v1.18(BETA17)

I used the original .exe and chose "repair" then installed update again. lets see if it works.

BIG MISTAKE!
was supposed to add: norm_spec_tangentbasis.fx (segment shader)
actually added: norm_alphaspec_tangentbasis.fx (entity shader)

so that screwed up my segments

But still, your "undo" button is not working in the newest FPSC

Does this work with X10 too?

That'd be appreciated, thanks.

Quote: "so that screwed up my segments"

Good to know, that it wasn't the application's fault.

For future versions, I may try to add support for detecting whether the shader is meant for segments or entities, to prevent such mistakes, although I'm currently not all that sure on how to differentiate between them.

Quote: "But still, your "undo" button is not working in the newest FPSC"

I think I found the problem, seems to only occur, when the updated segments / entities already had shader textures. Will work on that soon.

Quote: "Does this work with X10 too?"

Good question... unfortuneately, I don't have any answer for that right now, but probably not.

OK I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and I experienced quite some errors that messed up my FPSC:

1. The app requests for msvcr71.dll and msvcp71.dll that aren't included with Windows 7

2. When it starts to backup and rename textures,it gives an matrix lib error from DBPro

Will there be any fixes?

We're running Win 7 64bit on our laptop and ESM Shader works for us with no errors. The two files you mention are located in our Windows\System32 folder. You may need to download these DLLs and place in your folder, since other applications will require them as well. The backup/restore works fine on our end, so it could just be an issue on your system.

I have also downloaded those files and fixed it. I too run Win7 64bit,I might try disabling antivirus(AVG Free) and running as administrator. I'll report back in a minute.

EDIT: OK this time I disabled AVG and ran the app as admin,the segments went through nicely but entities made it crash:

Runtime error 5105 - Memblock position outside range at line 21

I honestly don't know how this happens.
