There is a couple of stages to model making that you should know so it's a bit easier to understand (I recommend copying this for future reference)
1. Modelling
First off theres actually making the model, which can be done with a program like milkshape, wings 3d, ac3d, truespace, blender (not for beginners) or google sketchup (not recommended). Essentially you build a model out of cubes, cylinders, spheres and other basic shapes, all made out of polygons (shapes) . aswell as custom shapes you can draw. The shapes can then be modified by moving around the polygons and vertices.
2. Uv mapping
The second stage is to make the model not just a plain white model. Unfortunately you can't just get parts of an image to go where you want it to go automatically. You'll have to essentially make a map of your object, which can be done with a program like lithunwrap, or uv mapper. (You will have to look up tutorials on this as it is quite difficult to understand).
3. Texturing
Once you have a map of your model, you can use a program like photoshop, paint.net or GIMP to put together all the bits of images you need on your model. (once you undertand uv mapping this will be easy)
4. Fpsc Readying
Once you've finished your model. You can export it as a .x file (if your modelling program does not support .x export you can use lithunwrap to do so). Then use entity workshop to export the model into fpsc.
I hope this helps but modeling isn't all that easy and took me many months to get my head around. Good luck with your modelling.
