Hey Folks,

There have been some nice updates to wings3D in the stable 1.41 release. Notably, there are basic scultiping operations(pushing and pulling), and the bridge operation allows for some nice boolean-like way of creating holes in models(that have previously been missing in older versions of wings).

There has also been a major release of Sculptris recently. This is an excellent free tool that started out by an indpendent developer, and is now supported by Pixologic. I highly recommend this tool in combination with wings3D to use as a sculpting and painting tool. I am very happy to see that this tool remains free(unlike when Autodesk acquired MudBox, another great but now expensive tool)

I hope these items aren't old news, but I wanted to make mention of these two free tools that I like to use. When I get some time, I will try to make a proper post about my modeling pipeline so this post doesn't sound like a pure advertisement.

Keep on modeling folks!

I believe the paint on the models is preserved between different levels of detail on the model. You might have to export different UV maps for each level of detail though. I have not yet exported anything.

Like wings 3d and love sculptris, especially for concepts.

@DevilLiger

I've used the alpha for a while, the texture painting is great, and works nicely on most if not all models.

A little late but its good you are getting the word around about my favorite modeling program *giggle*

Making someone's day a little better because of one of my models means a lot to me.

I believe painting has to be the last step, I don't think you can sculpt without losing your paint.

Another user explains it better here:

If you had the same model at different levels of detail, might they already have the same UVs? If so, then the texture map you created for one should work on the other LODs as well.
