This is nothing special to be honest..a bunch of photoshop brushes with some style put on a plane.

I actually might do a "pack" like this and give it for free just for fun.

My bad for not reading it,I don't really care that much to do anyway though, that is a bit too much for some overlays in my opinion, like I said,a couple of brushes here and there ,some blended styles and maybe a lomo filter to give it some contrast.I'm not sure if a thread for this would be adequate enough,it's just some overlays,so posting it here would be an option, but then again not many people will see it.

Edit-If anyone even cares , here's a shot of the progress so far.Only an hour in and not too shabby.Blood accompanied by a custom segment CS:Source style.

What program do you use to make these? I would really like to know how if it is as easy as you make it sound.

When I say easy,I speak from an artist's perspective. If you are an artist yourself it would be easy for you as well. And I don't use any special program that makes this out-the-box,I use Photoshop CS2 and start from a blank white screen.Use either splatter or blood brushes,or some of the default grunge brushes and tune some settings to get some dynamic shapes.I change color swatches to make the results more pleasant. If necessary,I change contrasts between layers and I just stack layers with similar colors on top of each other to make this blood effect. After this is done,I create some basic meshes for the overlays,as you can see on the screen one of these meshes is a plane consisting of 2 polygons with a bend modifier. That way it looks like the blood drops from the wall onto the ground and keeps flowing.

Helpful enough?

While you're doing blood, you should do some messages in blood. Like "Help", or "Save us Lord." Stuff that's creepy like that.
Just a suggestion.

Wow, awesome Gencheff! I have tried and failed at making blood decals and overlays, so I know that you've done some pretty darn good work.

Dude, the mesh part is the easiest for overlays ... The only thing slightly complex about them is creating the texture.

Nice job btw Gencheff, though IMO they look too much like brushes and not real blood... like if you look at the wall one on the left, the blood spatters are (IMO0 too large and you can see a darker blood spot overlayed in the lighter one... just friendly suggestions Lovin the segment though... looks sweet!

Cheers,
Anayar

@ZP, Meh, kudos for speaking your mind. Everyone is very uptight around here, I prefer when people are more honest. But I suppose it is up to the discretion of the mods and admins of the forum.

On a side note, great overlays Gencheff. Not everything in a video game has to be completely realistic, I honestly prefer things that are stylized. And those splatters remind of games like CSS or HL2. Great job, I will picking those up depending on the price tag.

ZP control yourself dude

He was giving constructive criticism on Genchef's blood splaters, and praising the segment.

What did he ever do to you?
Cool off dude.

On another note,
Great looking stuff Gencheff.
I do agree with Anayar though, in saying that they are a little dark or splotchy to be blood.

A word that would definitely come to mind is a little cartoony even. They seem to be made up of 3-4 colors and only that.
Needs more... variation. Not in the splatters themselves, but the colour of the splatters.

Yeah, overlays kinda suck. They really screw up the transparency of the texture and make it very pixely.

No. It's an overlay, not a decal.

I cleaned up this thread. I, personally was disgusted with Zwarte Piet's attitude and post. Particularly when the post he was referring to wasn't overly critical or rude.

I wish someone had emailed a mod to let them know this thread had deteriorated. Posting like that is not tolerated on these forums and Zwarte Piet is banned for 1 week, and on post moderation when he returns.

I reported that particular post like a week ago using that little red-faced smiley button and it said the report had been sent. I've used that button a few times in the past, but don't whether or not it did any good in those cases either. Do the abuse reports not go to the mods, and if not, why is that button even there?

I've done the same thing on some other occasions, but nothing was ever actually done, until I emailed the mods later on.

Gencheff those segments look great!!

Some high quality work put into those

May i ask what program you use to create the texture for the segments? I really want to start making my own textures but i don't know where to start.. Do you actually take a picture and then edit it? Or do you find a free picture online and edit it?

Just wondering of course! Keep up the great work Gencheff!

Photoshop.

This particular segment is not made of 1 photo.I've made basic tiles in photoshop by hand, then overlayed some concrete.Hand painted the wood panels and added the wood carves from another photo.

If I don't have anything else to do,I usually take the photos myself.Otherwise I might visit cgtextures.com from time to time.
