hello i was wondering if you have to open ports on your router to get a multiplayer game to work or what? i have a game built and i can join it myself and walk around no problem i havent had anybody else try it to see if they can join because im not shure if they can just join my game or if i need to open ports on my router orwhat? can somebody please help me out? i dont know much about multiplayer i did do some searching but did not find a real answer!

If you are behind a router, yes you need to open ports or "port forward" the required port.

No port forwarding is a troubleshooting step if multi player does not work. Keep in mind multi player still has several issues and last time i checked was not 100% recomended. I mean you could build games with it but its a hit n miss last I knew. Personaly ive never had any luck with multi player working on FPSC. Sucks too because it would be great if it would work for me.

thanks guys ima try to see if my fps multiplayer demo will work! but 1 question how does the other player actually connect to my game when he hits join at the main menu? like on xbox you would be on that games server. so what im asking is what is allowing us to connect and play as a multiplayer? and one more thing can u run a fps creator game on a mac ? my friend asked me

If you're the host then you need to set up port forwarding, yes. Unfortunately as others have mentioned the system is a bit hit and miss anyway, and many have trouble with getting it working even with their router is set up properly.

I've been lucky enough to get FPSC Multiplayer to work without having to port forward. I've also been unlucky enough that FPSC wouldn't work even with ports forwarded. So I would say, it really doesn't matter what you do lol. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
