I've been a DB user for about a year, my project was an online first person shooter in DB Classic. I got the 3d engine down, got sliding matrix collision down, got weapons, an enemy, gravity, stair climbing, a good skybyox, then I got it working online, I played it online with 2 other people, (which was just me looking at another cylinder who moved), I made a chat system so we could talk, and then I lost my DB CD and I ordered Pro yesterday.

Will I be able to port this code directly from DB to Pro? Because of the terrible way it's coded I was thinking about just trashing it and starting from the beginning, but will there be any problems adjusting to the new software? Now with Dark Collisions, DBP, and 3ds max I'm feelin lucky about making a good game.

But how will a midly-experienced DB programmer do in the Pro world?

A few more questions as I think of them...

Should my level be BSP? I don't know the range of capabilities with max and BSP. Can x/3ds handle lightmaps? Does anyone know if max will be able to do BSP work? I want to know if I should start learning a bsp editor like hammer editor or if max can handle BSP levels, or if I can get away with .x only...

If you've done all that, DB Pro won't be a problem for you.

I would be tempted to use your current project as a template for a new start. I tried to tweak my code for Pro, and never got it to work. I pinned the problem down to one line, fixed it, and just ended up with more problems. After a couple of weeks coming back to it, I started from scratch.

It was a good thing to start again anyway. I tidied the code up and found better ways of doing the same thing.
