The Darkbasic UI is selectively overriding my system colors, and it's making it very difficult to use. When I first loaded it, almost everything--the help files, main text, and assistant--were all forcing white on white as their colors, meaning the text was completely unreadable. I figured DB was overriding my background colors but leaving my font colors, because that's the kind of sloppy mistake that no one ever catches because they assume everyone uses black text (In fact, almost every application that changes the windows background colors leaves the foreground colors.)

I changed my foreground text colors to black, and that made no difference. I changed my windows object text colors to black, and that made the help files readable but the menus, popups and UI elements were still white on white. This means the menus are a hassle and the project setup window and popup help are both unusable.

I would like to request that DB take the simple courtesy to either override both system font and background colors or to not override either. I am sick of changing my display settings for every program I run just because people want a slick marketing-white background instead of the ugly windows desktop-white. Having a ho-hum interface is one thing, but when it shows up with no text because it's white-on-white, it just looks like the program doesn't even work. (That's what I used to think before I knew that most programmers make this mistake)

This isn't a hard thing to fix, so please fix it in the next patch. I'd like to use DB but it's pretty hard when I can't read anything.

(On a related note, why is there no support forum or address? The rest of the world shouldn't have to read my ranties, and I don't even know if this will ever get to the right people...)

I should make this known now, but there will be NO UPDATES to the current UI, or as it is more commonly called, the IDE. The reason for this is that the person who designed the IDE disappeared, and the DBPro guys have no desire to learn Delphi.

You will be pleased to know several User IDEs are under development. All are under Program Showcases. The one's that look the best are IanM's and Beavis's IDE's. Make a post concerning your problem, and I'm sure either one or both will resolve this for you. Have a pleasent day!

Hang on.. we are talking about DarkBASIC Pro here? or DarkBASIC v1?

If it is DarkBASIC v1 - then use DarkEDIT instead.

If it is DarkBASIC Pro - The author of the editor is completely seperate from the DBP team, you'll need to use one of the new editors in development. Look in the "Program Announcements" and "Work In Progress" forums.

Yes, I will admit, that's one of the main reasons I forget which is which. Out of curiosity, did you two collaberate on that, or did you both just randomly choose, and ended up being semi-related?
