It reminds me of Epic Games' sorta bulky weapon design. Looks very sweet!

Looks brill, can't wait to see the textured version. Are you gonna texture it exactly like the source image?

Been modelling in some things and trying to soften things up, low poly's done, just need to finish the UV's and I can bake Still going to model in more as it looks even worse on the new render while it's a floater.

Your scifiweapon is pure gold

However, its a revolver, not a pistol

At the end of the day it mainly comes down to the artist's skill

And you mike have progressed a lot in a short period of time, very impressive

That looks very nice, though I would possibly make the trigger guard a bit narrower.

It reminds me of the old arcade guns you'd play Time Crisis with, crossed with something from the Fifth Element

Hey mike, been looking over at this thread for a little while and wanted to say that the high poly looks really amazing, however, what polycount are you working at for the low poly? to me it looks like you've gotten rid of too much and it suffers for it, I dont know what your plans or at least your internal thoughts of what this models end goals were but if its a weapon for a current gen fps I'd throw a lot more polys itis way, just my opinion, looking good though

why would you need to buy them - if youre a student you can get those programs for free
<non commercial licenses>
otherwise just go with blender, wings 3d, truespace etc

The result of origin.. Oh and ponies

Trying to decide on the colours, need to finish the cylinder, it's just tweaking the cage though. I would love it if people could give me some advice, say what one they thinks best or do some paint overs, really stuck for ideas; my textures normally end up a boring flat gray.

I would go with fake wood and chrome for the gun

The handle clearly looks like its made out of some artificial substance so real wood is no option.

But definately chrome for the functional parts of the gun.

Maybe a little emblem on top rail? Some tribal sign or something.

Actually, I kind of like the base image in post 1

Brushed metal with wood as Wolf said would be perfect. I can't really see it in any other color scheme then the original concept art. The green one looks like a Nerf gun.

I was thinking sort of the same thing, except more of a grungy look:

Heres some more images of cool color schemes to give you some ideas:
