So i finally got a gun rigged and FPSC ready. I sadly can't distribute it because i do not own the textures/Model/etc. But i just wanted to show you guys, It turned out great actually!

Screenshots:

Firing

Reloading

Even ironsights!

I wish i could use this in my game. Im going to ask to see if i can get permission to use it later, but for now it's just for show.

QUESTION
Alright so the only downfall to this cool weapon, it's around 15k polys. Yeah, that's horrible, at least for FPSC it's horrible. So i was wondering if anyone knew how i could lower the polys? If it's not possible then that's ok! If it's really hard can someone give me like a VERY detailed explanation as to what i have to do. Thanks!!!

Bring it into Blender and use decimate on it. It should keep it looking pretty good and bring it to a good polycount.

Nice job rigging, does indeed look good!

Cheesehead for life.

Is blender free? I don't have it, but it seems like something i should get as a lot of people talk about it..

Thanks! I may re-texture it, but for now it looks alright. Oh and the poly count is more like 19k. That's what Milkshape told me..

Thanks for commenting!

EDIT - Never mind, i found the download!
EDIT2 - I have no idea what im doing, can you tell me how to like import the gun into blender? It's probably easy isn't it?

@Exu Corporations: Yes, Blender is free as well as whole host of other programs!

For a list of these programs as well as their type, visit my thread "Your favorite entity making programs" on this board; you'll find lots of useful information and tips there!

BTW, what did you do to make the gun FPSC ready, if I may inquire? Can it be picked up/held by enemies? I downloaded some modeling programs a few minutes ago, and I will start using them tomorrow or the day after.

Thanks in advance and good job!

Yes it can be picked up, i don't know about an enemy using it. I don't see why not. All i did was overwrite the original HUD.x for the M4A1 with the new HUD.x. I will give a detailed tutorial in my forums on my site!

And i will definitly check out your thread man. Thanks!

For enemies to be able to use the gun you must create a VWEAP.x file. It is basically just the gun with no animations

And nice rig... glad to see things working for you now !

Cheers,
Anayar

[EDIT]And in Milkshape go to Tools>DirectX Mesh Tools and a Pop-Up window will appear... move the slider around to reduce the poly-count [/EDIT]

Another easy thing to do is just delete all the faces on the gun that you do not see when holding it. It will reduce the poly count a lot.

I would suggest finding a program such as milkshape and learning a few tutorials. You will catch on soon enough.

select them... delete them.

JK, JK lol anyways, its a bit hard on a gun liek this... I suggest you regroup individual parts, hide the whole gun, unhide the part of the gun you want to be working on (deleting faces of... only do this ONE part at a time). Then go to "Select" and choose the Face option. select the unnecessary faces and delete. Let me know if you run into problems

Cheers,
Anayar

I will do this as soon as possible Anayar, but im still working on the rigging tutorial on my site. I will try that as soon as i can, sorry!

So far there are 27 steps, i feel like a video would have been a lot easier but i don't have a mic :/

Thanks for commenting though!

Ill assume youre really tired there

What do you mean "removing the stock"?? The player is going to see SOME part of the stock right? If not, then just go to "Select" and draw your selection box over the stock (in the top right viewport). Make sure "Ingore Backfaces" is unchecked and then hit delete. This will delete the stock. Works the same for ANY part of the gun.

Now, to delete just parts of the model, go to "Select" and choose "Face" and check "By Vertex". Now select just the vertices that teh player will not see and select them and hit delete. Be careful when doing this as you can lose parts of th gun you mgith need during different anim frames

Cheers,
Anayar
