I've got a problem with the alien model in the alienware media package. I'm using DbPro AlienWare Trial btw.

First of all, when I run the alien demo program, I see everything... except the alien. Well, I do see him, but there's no texture on him, he's all black. Also the animations won't display. Second, when I try to load him in (.x) and texture him, I get the same problem. Also, when trying to load the .3ds version of him, DbPro crashes with a memory error or something. I can successfully import both of the models into 3dsmax(5). I've tried both my own test progg and the alien demo on three computers, specs follow, all with the same problem. The strange thing is, everything else works. Other models etc.

My comp:
Win2k Pro SP4
512mb DDR Ram
Ati Radeon 9000 128mb
1,7 Ghz Pentium 4

Brothers comp:
WinXP SP1
256mb DDR Ram
Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 128mb
1,7 Ghz Pentium 4

Friends comp:
WinXP SP1
1024mb DDr Ram
Ati Radeon 9700 128mb
1,6 Ghz Amd Athlon

Hi,
I bought DBPro some time ago, and I also had the same "black texture" problem.
It's to say, had the problem only on my laptop.
On my other PC all worked great.

Here is how I fixed the problem...
When saving your .x model, make sure to save it as BINARY.
I use MilkShape 3D 1.6.6a (export ->> DirectX JT, then select name for output, then on pop-up box... mark Binary).

You will see, your model will be perfectly textured.

So people out there who have a black, non textured AlienWare model, import the model into MilkShape and then export it as an binary .x file.

I have the latest directx and dbpro patches installed on both PC's.

Greetzzz,
Galahad.
