Alright so i understand why mods lock threads. And i wouldn't be suprised if this thread got locked. But what i don't understand is why do mods lock the thread's so fast? Shouldn't you give the people a warning instead of just automatically locking the thread? What if they forgot the screenshots, and were going to upload them but it already got locked?

I think you should give a warning, something like this:
"You need 'such and such' to post a thread, you have 1 day to do so or this thread will be locked"

Now i know you guys are going to say, Read the stickies! Well what if they just missed it, or they can't read it, or something like that? I know they should obviously pay attention to other posts to get an idea, but some of them are close but they just forget screenshots..

Another thing, why is it MANDITORY that we have to have screenshots? What if we don't want to show anyone yet? Like the movie super 8, it's commercial's showed nothing of the movie yet it was an amazing movie!

Those are just my ideas, if you want to add to them or debate some go for it. If a mod want's to lock this due to it's non-importance and the lack of a good title then go for it. This is just here to get my ideas out.

Thanks!

-Josh

Depends on the board, the WIP board requires screenshots, if you allow folks to post without them then you get the usual half thought out storyline and the poster hasnt even started to create a level never mind a game. Besides its just what it says, FPSC Work in Progress, if you dont have anything in FPSC yet then dont post.
As for models and media it gets tired real quick with posts of 'my first model'. Same with posts full of Sketchup screenshots or whatever modeling program they chose to use, again its FPSC models and media if its not in FPSC then post in 3dChat.
The same could be said about music, theres a specific board for this too.

Its simple, if its in FPSC then whats the problem with posting screenshots, its the only way to know its actually FPSC related.

Mostly people dont forget they just dont read the rules for posting, worst of all is when you get the "I have to go to bed now, will post in the morning" routine, could have waited to post the thread then coudn't ya?

As far as I am concerned these threads should be deleted not locked as they push actual FPSC related posts down the board.

They seem capable of writing a post so I assume they can read.

Your right this thread will most likely be locked but at least I got my tuppence worth in, time to end my rant

Took the words right out of my mouth, Rolfy. It is explained pretty clearly- all one has to do is read the stickies and see what is required.

What amazes me is how many threads we see that constantly gripe and complain about threads being locked, etc. The moderators have been very fair here, and have to balance their role with real life. They volunteer their time and I would think instead of complaining on "what i don't understand is why do mods lock the thread's so fast" or "I think you should give a warning", you should walk a mile in their shoes and realize that option is not available. They don't have time to sift through post after post after post to give warnings, etc.

It is frustrating when these posts or other posts similar in nature push the legitimate posts down or onto other pages. So you are not alone there, Rolfy.

That made me laugh. I'll have to try that. "Can't post right now. BlueFox is sending me to bed."

I think the thing about deleting the thread would only result in a "What happened to my thread?" thread and it would have the same effect of pushing down legitimate threads, plus double the work for MOD's.

I say we take 'em out back and shoot 'em. Who's with me?

OK.

The reason I lock threads and leave them; is indeed so the author doesn't wonder what happened to them. After a bit of time (usually a week or so); I delete them, as they are just clutter. I hope that's enough time for the author in question to come back and see what's happened. Reasons why the thread(s) are locked are usually given; though we don't have to, we try on most occasions.

Screenshots are mandatory; because it keeps other threads from being pushed down with the "I have a great idea for a game" threads/paragraphs. Screenshots are mandatory in FPSC Media, FPSC WIP and FPSC Showcase boards. We haven't had a real problem with songs or sounds; so they're fine the way they are in Models and Media.

The WIP and Showcase Boards have standards that are the minimum needed to post; this is done to have some continuity, and to help developers with making their work look well-presented. A sloppy thread will get sloppy responses; a well put-together thread will garner better responses.

As with everything here; we only have so much time in the day to handle things, and there are only so many of us on board.

No, No Brian..
First - we take em out back
Then - we issue bamboo torture
then - we shoot em.

mixing the last two up would just cause some 'weird' fetish thing. That's just NOT right.
