hi, I'm trying to get a muzzleflash in my FPS, I'm using 2 plains, 1 that is pointed to the screen and 1 that is coming out of the muzzle, i used .png files for transperency and i set the objects to transparency, but the prob is that i don't see the second muzzleflash thats behind the other one, i see a part of it but thats the part thats not behind the other one, so the plain isn't transparent for the otherplane :/
so anyone knows what the prob is and how to solve it?

Specs: AMD Athlon 1800, 256 DDRRam 266mhz, 80GB HD 7200rmp U133, Geforce 4 Ti4400 128mb ddr sdram

Well, not really, because you haven't told us or shown us what you've done so far. A small piece of code would be nice ...

Try using the SET ALPHA MAPPING ON command to set the transparency levels instead of the SET TRANSPARENCY command

Hiya Chip

Yes please - I'll take a look at it, although as you know, I'm not the best with the effects side

This is the code I generally use for explosions, engine flares etc. When several plains are put together they blend nicely if you have a good texture. You have to set this for each plain:

set object x,1,0,0,2,0
ghost object on x
set alpha mapping on x,100

That's all there is to it, if the plains are pointed to the camera you can acheive some nice effects with this.

Once I was but the learner, now, I am the Master.
See my site for amazing games and demos!

you see the last red circle, a part of it has been cut off, it's behind the other plane but you cant look trough the transparent part of the plane, but thats only with the last 2 plains

Transparency worked just fine for me with patch 4.
When patch 5 came out most of my own particle systems for
bullet holes, muzzle flash, smoke etc where transparency
were a key factor seriously got messed up.

That was it for me. I now use another programming language
and everything's fine. Whats the point with updates to fix
bugs when other parts that worked fine befoure gets broken again? :-

Me, You, DBP and everything else, were made in the same place. The Stars!
I wonder what kind of matter DBP bugs are made of ... antimatter ??
