1. I recently started experimenting with the object shadowing commands, but I noticed that the size of the shadow does not change no matter how far or how close the object is to the surface or from the light. Is there some kind of advanced shadowing or something along those lines that will give more realistic shadows?

2. Is there any way I can convert a set of 3D coordinates (x,y,z) into a set of 2D coordinates (x,y)?

The wisest leader is the one that can avoid the conflict in the first place.

1. I don't know a lot about shadows so someone else will have to answer that.

2. OBJECT SCREEN X and OBJECT SCREEN Y commands may be what you're after.

1. I'm not sure if it's a factor, but the shadow light (0) is directional by default, so it wouldn't necesserily change size. Maybe it's worth changing light 0 to a spot light instead.

2. What Hodgey said. Often, I make a dummy object, like make a cube then hide. Then I make a function to position the dummy cube at a specified location and put text or whatever - so you could have a 3D text function, 3D lines, dots, whatever you need.
