Hello everyone I am new to darkBASIC, but I am wanting to get into it pretty heavily. I have a lot of experience with other languages such as VB, c#, TrueBasic, and several others but i was looking for a good book to help me get on my feet with darkBASIC.

I found a few resources on amazon so i was wondering if someone could help me decide on one of these or suggest a different book.

These are the books i was interested in...

http://www.amazon.com/DarkBASIC-Game-Programming-Jonathan-Harbour/dp/1598632876/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1313209089&sr=1-1

This next book my main programming instructor has but its pretty old...

http://www.amazon.com/Beginners-DarkBASIC-Programming-Premier-Development/dp/1592000096/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1313209089&sr=1-3

I was really considering this next link...

http://www.amazon.com/DarkBASIC-Programming-Experience-Technology-ebook/dp/B002Y33MWE/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1313209209&sr=1-1

So if someone could help me decide on a book or if someone could suggest a different book i would really appreciate it.

I hope to become a very useful, and involved member of this DarkBasic Community.

I've never read any books on dark basic so can't comment there.

I've used the DBpro help files and help examples(which are excellent in my opinion) to get a lot of my understanding of dark basic.

I also used tdks tutorials which are extremely helpful

And whenever you get stuck yell out on the newcomers forum. everyone's pretty good at pointing people in the right direction to solve a problem.
welcome to the community!

These forums are great if you post your problem/question clearly. I've also setup a custom google bookmark which searches these forums locked threads, as this can speed up a solution too.

Book wise; I think there are 3 books available, but thinking they might not be that useful to someone who can already code.

I bought the first book on your list for my Dad some time ago. It's decent but I had to fix several code problems in their examples before they'd work right. The cool part for me is my former teacher (my Dad) was totally impressed at my abilities to fix problems that the author of the book didn't notice before publishing... but if you're new to Darkbasic Pro you may not want that book because of the code mistakes.

I don't have it myself (I don't use books either) but the one that seems to be the most popular here is The Hands On Darkbasic Pro Volume 1 and 2. It's two massive books that you don't want to buy the physical book if you live in America because the shipping costs more than the books themselves (something like $90 bucks shipping). But thankfully you can get a digital version now for only $15 bucks each.

I haven't ordered from them but since they host the support files for those books and regularly add new content in their Darkbasic Downloads area it's a safe bet their a legit company.

I have the Hands On books. Haven't read them from front to back, but they're useful as a reference for various less used DBPro commands.

So if you already know how to program, they are useful for learning what the various commands do.

hands on DBpro gives you the right kick start on how to make computer games using windows platform. I learned DBpro by reading hands on DBpro 1 & 2. these two books put you in intermediate-advanced level. however, if you are advanced programmer as I was before DBpro then learning the language is extremely easy and shouldn't take you more than three to four month.
while reading those two books and their examples, try to create your own projects because later you will know what is missing.
as you may will notice from the editor, you can purchase adds-on plugging to enhance your DBpro experience. as well have a look at the commands index in the help file to recover the commands that are missing from the books.
once you do all that then you will find out that the language is not about game programming only but it put windows platform under your control.
