Hi everyone,

I've noticed that Ambiance levels and fog don't work on characters, they work perfectly fine for other entities but characters just show up through fog disregarding any change in ambiance levels so what's causing this?

I use V118 Final
Shaders are OFF and I removed the shader file from the (Effect) field in the character's properties..

TY..

Hello Bibo4PC,

Please, might you post a screenshot showing up the problem because that maybe help someone to clarify your issue.

as you said the fpsc-fog and -ambient only work on characters/entities if there are no effect-shaders attached on them.

i would torture bond1 to do it (as in x10 done) but thats not legal and i dont know where he lives

attached u see that the character is not affected by ambiance levels (only its weapon is) while the entity beside works fine.. and if u look behind there's a thug in fog that's 100% visible..

and as i mentioned earlier Shaders are off and the effect line in character file deleted..

Hello Bibo4PC,

A few months ago I was doing a scene with fog in the FPSC and faced this problem where the stock characters were not affected by fog effect.

So, let's pick a stock character for example, in this case I chose USMarine (unarmed) character.

First of all, go to File ---> Preferences ---> Visual and select Full Shader Effects (see figure
below).

Now go to Files \ entitybank \ ww2 \ characters and open the U.S. Marine (Unarmed). fpe (see figure below) using FPIEditPad, Notepad or something like that. Note: Make sure you have administrator privileges when opening the file otherwise your changes will not be accepted by Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Before making any modifications in your original USMarine(Unarmed).fpe file, please make a backup of this file and store it in a safe place, because if something goes wrong you will can return to your original file settings.

Then change the original file by modifying the kind of texture (from .tga to .dds) and disabling the row named effect with a semicolon (see figure below)

Save your changes and run the FPSCreatorCleaner.exe.

That's it!

I hope this may solve your problem with fog.

Regards.

amazing.. very detailed instructions and worked like a charm thank you so much..

but something doesn't add up, how come it only works when I activate full shaders although I removed the shader file from the character?

isn't this effect responsible for applying normal and specular maps WHILE full shaders are on? or does it affect anything else?

TY..

Hello Bibo4PC,

I'm glad that your issue with fog effect has been solved.

Indeed it's really something too much strange, as you wrote because you should enable full shader effects and after that remove any effect shader applied to the character settings so that the fog effect works on the characters properly.

The only reason I can see is maybe something related to alpha channel of the .dds textures that makes something like a fade out effect as the character reaches the far range level of the fog effect. but I'm not sure about that.

Sorry, I can not find a proper explanation why this happens, however is very contradictory issue.

All the best.

could be that the fog itself functions as a fx-shader, so you have to activate shaders but cut fx-shaders to get fog-fx working.
