Hello guys, I have big problem with Win 7-64bit.
I made my game on Windows XP and guys who have 64 bit ( Windows 7 ) can not play the game. Loading come to end and then stop, but guys on 32 bit ( Windows 7 ) can play game and everything for them works good.
Anybody already had this problem, how to fix this ?

Thanks and sorry for my English xD

Run the exe in admin mode.
Right click the exe then click Run as Administrator.

download original directX9.0c and install, its free (google for it). actual windows/dx-updates dont support dx9 any longer via downloader, so you have to load it by yourself.

this is what make fpsc so outdated.it not made to under anything but xp.i to get problems running some x9 games on window7.this can be a big problem for fpsc because if you want your game to be known to everyone on net. and they can't play your game it makes it pointless. everyone has left xp and the number will grow.this will put fpsc in a down fall.making fpsc more compatible with windows7 does not mean it will become dx11 it can still run under dx9 just compatible with window7.window 7 should not have to become compatible with old software
old software need to be upgrade to become compatible with windows7.it like changing from vhs to dvd's.everyone does it adobe ,cyberlink nad magix.

for fpsc to become fully compatible with all windows and upgraded they would have to redo the entire engine but i feel it wont happen i know they have alot on there plate but they keep coming out with new things and neglected the stuff already out that needs fixed

My software never has bugs. It just develops random features.

I agree. so yeah it won't happen. plus fpscx10 was that upgrade it can run on vista and windows7 without problems.now that a shame.

Hmmm. interesting.
I've found that a LOT of other engines, and games, are locked in with the last 9.0c as well and have discontinued requirements above that. I really don't know if there is a major market for pc beyond xp requirements that hasn't been implemented backwards-compatible into the latest 9.0c revision just to cover this issue. I am hoping that is the case. Most games I've researched that are slated as win7, win7live, vista, and xp, all include final 9.0c revision redistributable and link. PhysX, OpenGL, and ODE are all made to max at 9.0c without shader limitation or physics limitations. I'd imagine it is why TGC stopped support on x10 like many others have, but I could be missing something. Since cross-platform and 'apps' compat. have become a big deal (emulate machine out to xbox, i--gadgets, etc), it would close out a lot of potential markets if 9.0c were phased out.

^^There's a lot of truth to this. Even within my own lab, our main engine (OGRE3D) is a dx9 engine that has been retrofitted with dx10 capabilities. However, its weaknesses become more apparent over time. I do believe one of the reasons why this happened (in my lab and elsewhere) is because of Vista being so terrible. Conversion to Windows7 was slow with many people still working with XP (myself included) for a while after being scared off by Vista.

When they made direct x 11 they did not make it fully backwards compatible. Installing the dirct x install from microsofts site fixes the problem. Even Unreal has this problem but to fix it, when you make a playable exe in unreal it also installs the direct x drivers it needs. I think an actual frontend for FPSC would solbe all these issues and people playing them would not even be aware that direct x 9 was installed as it only adds the missing files to 11 not overwrite it.

I'm currently building an installer that will check system requirements, especially looking to see if DirectX9 is installed and install it if needed. This has been a major setback for 9X, and as someone already said makes it difficult to impossible to release a game to anyone who has a modern computer.

If anyone knows exactly which files need to be installed as opposed to the entire DX9 redistributable, I would appreciate that info.

As it is now (working) you just add your zipped game files and make your entries in the ini file for things like installer title, game name, minimum system requirements, etc. If the users system meets your requirements, the installer gets the install location/settings, unzips/installs your game, and creates the uninstaller and program shortcuts.

Brian.

But of course...

Try this--> http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee416805%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

Another method is to include the DirectX Web Installer, which is a downloaded executable file that checks the user's computer for DirectX components, both optional and core. It downloads and installs components as needed after examining the currently-installed components. You could include that with your application.

I know this is what we follow with our deployments, adjusting or using whichever method we need. If you need to discuss further, or need someone to test for you,we are at your disposal.

Yes, when in doubt, ask your programmer counterpart.

I'll contact you when it's ready for testing if that's OK. I still have a few things to work out and tweak but it shouldn't be long.

Could you possible be persuaded to make an x10 version of that installer? Please, pretty please!

For what it's worth, I will be using it with a suite of educational games that are part of a NSF project and it will probably be downloaded in many schools across the country. All of them saying "Hey, this explosoft stuff is crazy awesome good!"

It's my intent that the installer work for all/any OS, program or game. You set the install requirements per your program or game. My main focus however is to create an installer that will work with FPSC and enable you to actually distribute your games with a little confidence.

Still working on it but right now the race is about to begin in Michigan. As someone famous once said... "I'll be back."

And you did not invite us?

Brian, we make our own installer for our games (using INNO Setup) to produce an EXE, then we zip it. Can your applet be configured to check for system requirements and, if met, run our installer's EXE?

Yes, you tell it in the ini what to run when your requirements are met. You may want a more streamlined version. I'll get with you on your requirements.

Also a good idea s4. If I'm right on this, installing the game files properly (as opposed to running them from a folder you drop on the desktop) will also help with some of the 64bit security issues.

We shall see.
