Hi,

I was hoping some one could answer this for me.

I work in a strict prison environment and obviously we cannot give users admin access to prisoners just so they can use Dark Basic Professional.

What I proposed to do was to purchase some notebooks, load them up with 4 gigabytes (with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) and then install Virtual PC with Windows XP and then install Dark Basic Professional. The inmates would then be able to run Dark Basic in the virtual PC environment without risking computer security.

Is this the best way to go, does anyone have any other solutions that they may have used in a environment where users cannot be admins.

DBPro is the new Amos (I hope)

I don't think DarkBASIC can run in a virtual PC. Virtuals PC's do not emulate modern video cards, so DirectX will not work, making DarkBASIC not work since its backbone is in DirectX.

Could you get software to lock down the computer with strict security and then install DarkBASIC?

DarkBasic, doesn't need admin rights if you install it outside of Program Files, right?

Absolutely - never had a problem with running DBPro this way on any system I've installed it on.

Also, I was under the impression that the XP mode Virtual PC was able to take advantage of graphics acceleration, specifically to allow old games to run on Windows 7 - I haven't tried this out myself though.

Well, I wasn't sure, the last time I had a VM I could never get Direct3D stuff to work.

When I toyed with this idea a couple of years ago, I got stuck at the lack of DirectX working in Microsoft VPC. Things might be a different story with say, Oracle VirtualBox, but haven't tested it personally.

Help build an online DarkBASIC Professional help archive.

Instead of installing windows 7 home premium You should install windows 7 professional, and have them all networked to a windows server and on the windows server set the group policies. Setting the group policies will help lockdown any pc connected to that specific network.
