Greetings.

I'm new to the DarkBasic community, and still fairly fresh to coding in general.

I am about to start a new project, an RPG. Before the flaming begins, this is simply a hobby and I am fully aware of the complexity involved.

Anyway, as I said I'm still fairly new to this sort of thing and I can't seem to find answers for what I am trying to accomplish.

I would like to create a turn based game with the one camera view; however, I would like to give my models a 3d look. I was wondering what the best way to go about this would be.

The best example I can think of to give you an idea of what I mean is Conquer Online. No, I'm not trying to recreate conquer or anything like that, but visually that is what I am shooting for.

I suppose my question is should I create a 3D game with a single camera view or would it be better to create a 2D game and incorporate something to give my models a 3D look? Or am I way off?

If anyone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction...

That certainly requires 3D to achieve the look. Search for Orthagonal camera views, I think this is what you need.

In the Code Snippets forum, I did notice a snippet called "Sprite Me" which if you found it more comfortable starting your project in 2D then that utility will convert 3D models you create in to handy 2D images to use as sprites.

However if you do a little research on isometric graphics and see what you think before going down that route.

3D would give you the absolute best results but you can achieve some great effects by cheating with 2D, "Sprite Me" is one of those little tricks...

'Sprite me' looks ace actually. If I wanted to make an isometric game I would use it.

@WLGfx,

Can you post a link to your thread in the code snippets? I tried a forum search and it didn't show up under Sprite me. Searched the code snippets board for threads with sprite and didn't it didn't come up.

THanks
