Hi all,

So my project has been getting quite large of late (see http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=187996&b=8 for details) and I've started noticing some odd goings on...

From time to time, the game will say it can't load a particular asset couldn't be found, even though it's right there and if I build and run the program again without changing anything it works fine...

I'm starting to think that perhaps my project is too big for DBpro to be able to handle while maintaining stability... Should I have fears of this? I've also experienced (though much rarer than the asset problem) unexpected quits in some places, and then when I run it again, but not change anything, it won't quit...

I have a poltergeist in my game!

What editor are you using?

How big is the program?

It could just be the editor can't handle it. I've had that problem with large projects.

doesn't matter how big the project is if based on functions. as well should break dba files into smaller files. try not to use gosub or goto when the project is large because you're going to end up in a mess. better use functions and globals if necessary. all that will increase you program speed and stability.

Hi guys,

I've split the project over multiple files, all categorised depending on their purpose. All up I have 19 different code files with just over 10,000 lines of code. I have been programming for 15 years and have a thorough knowledge of the use of subroutines and functions, and there are no memory leaks in my work. Even if there were, the unexpected file errors and crashes are happening very early in the program before any memory leaks would have a chance to occur...

Just to cover a possibility, try re-installing your codecs. I have had codecs using DB as a movie player for some reason, and trying to take over. Re-installing them stopped them. It's just a box to tick off possible problems.

That is a very interesting idea... I'm often playing movies while I work, so that could be it...

Could you try it on a bare install machine to see if the same thing happens. I could imagine how annoying that would be after getting so far in writing the game.

Yeah, it may require something like that. I'm aiming to release a demo of my game this Christmas and I'm organizing an extensive alpha test before it ships, so hopefully it will be picked up there as well.
