So after the devastating news LR Mod is unlikely to be continued I got dynamic shadows working in FPSC for testing purposes.

It looks great but I was disappointed to find the performance dropped to 20fps at best even with 1 dynamic light and 1 character casting and receiving dynamic shadows. Also I had to re build the static universe each time for the character to work properly so its no good for anything other than test games.

I would really like to see a talented programmer pick this up and see if its possible to make dynamic shadows performance reasonable in FPSC. Perhaps even Lee could look at this for V119.

Here is a pic but check out the youtube video for a better look.

Please post if you would like this feature so we can get more support for it.

Nomad Soul,do you mind explaining briefly the technique you used?
It would be of great help if anyone wants to fix the performance issue(myself included).

I would like to see this feature. I forget (well... I never really understood properly in the first place) the nature of the problem DG encountered with LRMod, but if we could get dynamic shadows working in FPSC at last, that would be a great step forward for the engine.

Hmm..Zoq, because 1.17 is quite more stable than 1.18

Edit: if he's using Corvus or Xara, hey Must switch back to 1.15 or 1.16 (i think)

Is that Xara mod? or Corvus?

Lets get into serious stuf

Did you happen to use Evolved's Advanced Lighting library?

Umm not really? When i had 1.17 all i had was problems and errors. I have the newest version of 1.18 and i have not had a problem yet! But that is just me..

Other than that, great job Nomad!

This looks like Evolveds Advanced Lighting, just what I'm using in LRMod.
Good luck with it Nomad, maybe someday we can work together on one Mod, if I would just have more time...

The only thing that worries me, is the 13-17 FPS you were getting. Personally, I think there is a long way to go before this
will happen and not effect the FPS substantially.

Whoever said that Intel graphics fail, obviously never owned a Core i5.

Thanks for the useful posts on here:

This uses Evolved's Advanced lighting. I downloaded something called Xploid mod and got the files from there.

Quote: "But they look great! Are you going to have mving lights as well?"

No as I'm not working on the source code. I'm just using a mod.

Quote: "Looks grate, but why arn't you using 118"

Because Xploid mod only works for v115 / v116 at the moment.

Yup!

Fortunately I read in LR mod thread that Dark Goblin has made a breakthrough and it might be back in development. We all have to hope Dark Goblin can deliver this because I sure as hell can't!

It's painful knowing it can be achieved in FPSC but we are not quite there yet.

Thought so well, the reason I never integrated that library into any of my mods was not because I couldn't, it's because of how slow it is (as you have seen first hand). The library is vast, and written pretty decently, but the shaders themselves aren't exactly fast, but because of the way the system works that's how they have to be.

If you want email me your source, I'll see if I can speed it up a bit and email it back to you with the changes.

@hockeykid:- He didn't add this to the source he using a mod called Xploid ,he sort of worded it like he had added it to the source himself.
