Greetings.

Firstly here's a nice little preview of some fantasy/melee characters I would like to get into FPSC (they are all in progress and not final).

Large image here

I had some questions about how I would implement the melee style attacks these characters will probably have and it appears from searching using a script like this thread mentions can work:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=147514&b=23

Is this still considered the 'right' or 'best' way to do this?

I would 'like' to have more than one animation for melee weapon like thrust, swing, block etc and the given method would support only 1 attack?

Any pointers or tips in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I do all my animations by hand, one by one in 3ds max, frame by frame. What I do is I first either use the basic fpsc animations then edit them how I like and add more animtions to the list at the end or I just do a whole new set of them. Its all up to you in the end.

But you are not giving us any real info on what you are confused with so its hard to help you.If you are creating them then why not just animate them your self?

Edit: I like the pig guy,he is pretty good.

Daniel;

sorry about my vagueness

My question is .. in FPSC most of the default characters are all using guns and whenever they "attack" it shows the gun muzzle flash as an 'attack.

These characters will have swords, tridents, clubs etc.

So they need to have a 'melee' attack sequence.

In the post I linked above they talk about a script that causes FPSC to use the 'grenade' animation as an attack animation.

So thats ok if it works.

I wanted to know additionally:

A) Is that the BEST way to do melee attacks?
B) Can it support more than one attack method like overhand smash, side attack etc ; or am I just stuck with only 1 sequence (the grenade throw) for all melee animations?

Hope that clarifies what I'm asking.. and thank you for the compliment on the pig guy

EDIT:

I figured it would help additionally to clarify what I'm not asking:

- I'm not asking how to animate, I know how to do that; but just because I animation 8000 frames of animation doesn't mean FPSC will play them...

@erebusman

As one side swip animation would be dull and if you know how to animate then do so,Give each guy there own set of aniamtions. You can make 10000000000 frame's of animations for your guys and fpsc will play them all in the order you script them to. You can also script in if the enimy attacks you if you loose health and sounds play and you also can play a quick flash of your choice,it's all in the script you write. It's the script's you write for the guys you make That make fpsc play them how you want. You need to look into scripting more less.

my signature keeps being erased by a mod So this is my new signature.

Thanks I think that helps, as per the link they used a script to modify the sequences so I'll have to look for some tutorials on that to get some additional melee animations to show in game.

Much appreciated.

Hey, erebusman. Your models look pretty amazing, by the way. Well done!

For my own humanoid characters I use the stock fpsc biped and rig, but edit some of the animations to better suit the type of character I am using. All my characters use custom scripts.

I have used the grenade attack animation approach before, but it really doesn't look all that good with a character using a melee weapon, in my honest opinion.

Looking forward to seeing the final product!

@Vandaarc : Thanks for the complement!

Yeah I need to dig into scripting it appears. I have a few traditional characters I'm going to finish up first and then I'll tackle the scripting for these melee characters.

Gives me some lead time to learn how to do it for fpsc

@ King Fluffs : lol nice ! then he definitely makes a good monster!

@xymore : Janet wrote me back recently and they are hooking up my GC Store access so I can sell models.. however I will say I have a LOT of models I will be producing and the community is VERY helpful -- I WILL release some models for free definitely.

I cant say yet which ones it will be but I definitely want to say thank you for the community help as I settle into learning to deliver these assets to the FPSC community.
