Hi, love the latest version of your IDE. Just have a question about the debugging function in one of your templates.

How can I prioritise the consol as it appears to be hidden behind the main full screen window ?

DemonHill,

Great to hear this version is working well. Did you notice if it was faster with your large project file.
To keep the console on top of all other windows. Look in the function “StartVariableWatcher” there is a command “set console on top TRUE”. We have a Constant TRUE =1 declared in the Constants.dba file. If you do not have the Constant declared it would equal zero. Optionally you can just replace TRUE with 1.

First of all, I like your work.

I have some experiences, want to share with you. When I start the program, it starts with an error message. (screenshot linked, image is big)

(It would be an advanced sprites command.)

Stab in the Dark software,

I am very impressed. Some features that I want to add to Indigo you already have. Very nice.

Something that I've come across is a "media not found" error for some strings. And the truncation of the titles of some of the tabs seems to be off.

I don't think I can say enough about how impressed and actually excited I am about the progress you've made and the quality of the product your producing. (though that may seem strange coming from a rival IDE developer )

Keep up the fantastic work.

All the best,

I'm going to take a stab and try this editor out.

Would it be possible for you to add a feature to allow users to change the background color of the editor? If it's already there and I don't see it, please let me know.

Precisely.

I know there are probably more important items to work on, but I generally change the background of the text editor if I can. I find the white background particulary, can be harsh on my eyes and/or quite boring during long coding sessions. Some would say the same for the color schemes I use. I've included ref images of VIM color schemes that are similar to what I prefer.

I'd also like to suggest that in the future you provide a few more preset color schemes, and include some that use a single font.

btwm, So far I am impressed and enjoying the IDE.

@SITDS, Thanks for the change.

I get an Unhandled exception error in v1.50 if after opening a project I scroll to the end of the source file.
"Index was outside the bounds of the array"

The error happens repeatedly any time i click the first "new" line after the last current line of the source.

Paul5147,

Are you receiving the following error message?

"Failed to Launch IDE. The following file is missing "AlphaExp.dll"."

If you are receiving the above error message the executable was not able to locate the DLL. The Executable and accompanying files need to be in the same folder in order for the IDE to run.

Paul5147,

The next step in debugging the problem which you are encountering is to check if you have the Windows libraries which the IDE is dependent upon. You can check the dependencies of the IDE using the “Dependency Walker” utility. You can download the “Dependency Walker” utility from the following website. http://dependencywalker.com/

1) Download “depends22_x86.zip” from the following website http://dependencywalker.com/
2) Unzip the “depends22_x86.zip” file.
3) Run the “depends.exe” file.
4) Click “File>>Open” and navigate to the folder “SITDE_v156_alpha” and select the “AlphaExp.dll” file.
5) Click “File>>Save” and save the “AlphaExp.dwi” file.
6) You can e-mail us the “AlphaExp.dwi” file or post it on the Forums.

Thank you for helping us to resolve this problem.

That helped,it starts up and asks for the install directory, but nothing i try will complete a compile and run,it stops after a few seconds and becomes unresponsive.
I have it set as administrator and have copied its folder to my d drive so its not a conflict with windows file protection.

Kind of unrelated, but how do you put images within a window like you have done on your "About" pop up window... one thing I never really managed to figure out. BTW Thx for implmenting the "project to do" list.

Paul5147,

The IDE is written in Visual Studio 2010 using C#. In C# just drag a Picture Box from the toolbox on to the form and add the image in the properties window.
Does this answer your question or do you need to know how to do it in another language?

Glad you liked the Project TODO list. Do you like the feature for detecting “TODO:” in comments and setting their priority.

Fixed bug in Compile and Run when launching DBPro.exe
Fixed bug with updating dependences
Added coloring for; Line Number Margins, Folding Margins, and Code Block Summaries.

Paul5147,
Thanks for your patience and posting the screen shot. It was a typo in the directory. We were using two forward slashes when it should be two back slashes. The real bug was that it worked in the first place on all of our computers? Give this version a try it should work now.

Paul5147,

We have not been able to duplicate this error. Can you confirm the following so we can isolate the bug?

1.Does the DBPro compiler create the exe in the project folder?
2.Did you have any other DBPro IDEs running at the same time?
3.What version of DBPro are you using?
4.When you get the error window, can you check if the DBPro compiler is still running?

1 no it does not create the exe
2 no other ide´s running
3 version 7.5
4 no the compilation has finished
All though since first trying the editor this morning it does now seem to work, some of the times, but its not on a regular basis.
The same code with only changes to the initial values assigned to variables will sometimes compile and run but not all ways.
I have even had it fail with a new blank project with nothing more than rem statements.
If no one else is reporting the same errors then i can only assume its something on my main PC,ill try it on my laptop later and see if i get the same results.
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. It appears the DBPro compiler is encountering an error, but not sending a compiler error message to be picked up by the IDE. We have not been able to duplicate the error on any of our systems which are all running DBPro v7.7RC7. We have been simultaneously developing the IDE on; XP SP3, Vista, Windows 7 64 bit SP1.

Im on Windows 7 32 bit without SP1 due to a few clashes with some older unsigned software drivers i need for work, could that be the issue?
I have tried 1.60 alpha on my laptop with the same operating system only updated to SP1 and so far so good.
Thanks.

We are currently designing a pre-compiler which automatically generates the DBPro code required for debugging of your DBPro application. The pre-compiler will generate a DBPro function which outputs the current value of all global variables and arrays in your project. The debugging function will handle global variables and arrays which are of a User Defined Data Type. The debugging function will also handle multi-dimensional arrays.

When running the IDE in Debug Mode the pre-compiler will insert a function call to the Debugging function on each line which has a break point. When the Debug function is called the DBPro application will pause and return to the IDE. While the DBPro application is paused the debugging output will be displayed in a debugging window within the IDE. The call-tips for global variables and arrays will also be updated and will show the current value of the variable. The user can resume execution of the DBPro application by clicking the “Compile and Run” button.
The debugger will also insert the DBPro code required to output variables which are declared locally within a function and do not have project wide scope.

I somewhat understand the dev process in application like Stab in the Dark Editor. I really liked your editor on my first try. Unfortunately since then, I have been unable to use it.

It seems that every time I am forced to update,, a new problem creeps in. I'll try to be patient and report the bugs as they come,, I just hope this gets sorted out.

As for the latest bug.
(FYI this program compiles and executes fine under the default dbpro editor). the source is broken down into numerous text files that are used to read in configurations. But I'll try to my best to show you the new issues).

1. On compile I get an Error msgbox:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Details

Now I can choose to continue and ignore the error.

2. I get the following Error

Can not convert string (Implicity Declared) to verbtype :
Line 113

line 113 is:
if cmd1$ = Verb(indexx).verb_string

cmd1$, verbtype, Verb(indexx).verb_string are declared as follows:

So there is not a conversion. They are both strings. In dbpro you can declare a string in 2 ways.

FIRST WAY

Now the variable needs to have "$" added to it throughout the program

SECOND WAY

Now the variable is a string but doesn't require the "$" added to the variable name.

There should not be an issue of doing the following:

As I said, my code compiles and runs without issue in the dafault editor. What is SITD Editor doing that it is having an issue with this?

I even tried to declare them both the same way, and I get an error can not convert string to verbtype. Also the editor locks up and I can no longer type.

=====================

What's with the expiration? I understand that you want to keep people on the same version so that any errors reported are current. But, It prevents me from being able to use even the last version that at least worked for me!!!. It's a bit irritating.

Zenassem,

These bugs have been fixed , sorry for the inconvenience. The team member that is developing the soon to be added debugging feature added a typo.

New version posted to web site.

Thanks, Just confirmed things are working again.

When you have the chance a few other questions I have...

[Save Project As... ???]
Why is there no Save Project As? I see that I can rename in Solution Explorer... just wondering?

[Output -> Errors Vs. Errors -> Errors]
What is the difference betwee Output -> Errors and Errors -> Errors? When I compile in SITDE I am generally looking at the output tab,, and sometimes it just stops and it doesn't show any errors. Then you have to click on the Errors tab, and under that you will see the Error. Is there a reason for this separation, it just feels clumsy at times.

Also the color used to highlite the error under the Error tab, (A very bright gray) makes it nearly impossible to read what the Error is. And there doesn't seem to be a way to un-highlite it. Fortunately it brings you to the offending line, and the error msg can again be read by mousing over the error.

[Closing Tabs like Find Results, Project Task List 1]
Not sure if this is my ineptness or my computer, But I find it frustrating to close some of these tabs at times. As I am bringing the mouse to the "X" more often than not I overshoot it, and the tab loses focus minimizing it. So I have to open it again and try to click the close "X". The selctions under View are merely that selections, rather than being toggles that can easily turn on or turn off tabs. And certain tabs like Project Task List & Output aren't even listed under View... so even if they were toggle selectors it wouldn't help with those items. Perhaps even allowing the user to right click on the tab itself and have an option to close.

But I guess more important than that is why doesn't the editor allow me to choose what tabs are active during startup, or at least remember the configuration of last use. Every time I close the editor and relaunch it, I have to close a bunch of tabs/Windows that I rather not be there. Example. The Dbpro Command Help, Find In File, Find Results 1, Find Results 2, Project Task list. These are great options to have around the screen, but I shouldn't be forced to turning these things off every time I launch the editor.

Thanks

Zenassem,

Thank you for your feedback. We will be addressing the bugs that you have listed in the next version.
FYI The “Output” window only displays errors that are detected by the DBPro Compiler during compilation.
The “Errors” window only displays errors that are detected by the IDE during parsing.
