Hi,
I would like to use add some new animations to already existing models. However, I don't have any real experience in working with 3d models. Which program is easier to use and learn for just changing some animations?
cheers

I personally find Milkshape to be easier to animate in, but Fragmotion can import .x files containing the animation, milkshape cant. What I normally do is import into Fragmotion and save as a milkshape file, then work on it in milkshape. Are you trying to decide which one to get?

Yes, I'm in the process of deciding which one to get and which one to learn. After playing around with both demo-version, the only think I'm sure is that I have to invest some time to learn to get usable results.

Fragmotion is free, and imo is better for animation than milkshape 3d. It really depends on your personal preference. While fragmotion has more of a learning curve, it does have more power. Milkshape, however, does have better modeling capabilities. But compared to blender, truespace, or wings 3d (all free) it really lacks some essential modeling features. To me, its not worth it.

I have never used Fragmotion; in fact never even heard of it until I joined this community.

Milkshape 3D on the other hand I have used for over a decade, one of its strongest features to me is its cross file format power.

It can read & write more file formats than any other modeling programs I've ever seen.

It has built in support for many game specific file formats.

It seemed to have hit its heyday in the Quake 3/ Half Life 2 days and hasn't seen as frequent updating recently. Its been on the same version for over a year for instance.

I do also however use OTHER modeling programs a lot also ; Milkshape is worth having in an arsenal. As a stand alone 'this does everything' application it can fall a little short.

Hi,
thanks a lot for you answers and input. I see that both programmes have their value (otherwise they wouldn't be mentioned in a lot of different posts). Design Runner, do you know where it is possible to download a free full *licensed* version of Fragmotion?
cheers

Its the combo what makes it so sweet.

You model and rig in Milkshape (and animate) export and Unwrap in fragmotion.

Hi,
ok just to give some feedback for other newbies. I just worked 2-3 hours and got from zero to the basics of animation using . They can be improved, but at least I get an Impression what I want to do. The part of exporting it from FragMotion to FPSC I haven't tried yet.
So if you want to start with animating and using already existing models, FragMotion is a possibility.
cheers
