Greetings folks.

I am still waiting on final details for my store account to be finished before my models will be available however the Black Ops character should be showing up soon (seen here )

My next character is a Paratrooper. I've done a lot of googling of different gear and nationality's and tried to make him more of a generic game character than to look like say a US Airborne Ranger. He will fit in well as an enemy troop for almost any nationality.

Here are two preview images for your enjoyment:

I am currently refining his texture and poly count. He is 2255 polys at the moment.

I am debating on what weapon to tailor his animations to. The Black Ops character is custom animations for the Commando gun included in FPSC; I may choose to animation for an SMG or try to make it suit more generic support like default animations; however I tend to dislike those because some weapons look pretty bad that way .. a handgun is not held the same way a rifle is afterall Still debating on that but community input is always welcome.

Any comments welcome, enjoy!

Very cool! and very useful! It's simplicity will be good for people like you said, using it in different scenarios as well as people who retexture it.

Well I've decided to stick with the same animations as my Black Ops model ; I loaded them up on this guy after rigging him today and they look quite good.

I do have another character in the pipeline that I'll be doing a handgun for but that'll be in a couple of weeks if not next month depending on how long this guy takes to finish.

and so here I'm feeling a bit silly... Just last night realized the animation supports both weapon types. I found an old Bond1 post that gave me the info I needed.

It's a little funny because I searched for that info several times but only stumbled on it finally by accident. So i spent most of last night tuning those animations up to better suit the model

I should have at least 4 for the Paratrooper

1 bearded with helm
1 bearded w/o helm
1 clean shaven with helm
1 clean shaven w/o helm

I think the bearded soldier gives an arabic appearance , there are not a lot of militaries that I am aware of outside of middle-eastern nations that permit beards (maybe the french?) so I need to definitely provide a clean shaven alternative.

I am considering doing possible asian and african variants as well.

I'm not sure what level of support for those additional appearances would be welcome from the community or just be considered unnecessary?

I can imagine that if I had a soldier in a base, having more than one appearance for my map would be very nice and avoid the appearance that all the enemies are exactly the same right?

Then again for people just doing home level FPSC levels that wont go commercial - just a couple of good looking soldiers is a great addition and they would not likely want the expense of additional variants is my guess -- community please inform me otherwise if I'm wrong -- as an artist I would like to provide good assets in the variations that are useful and desired.

Thanks for continued feedback Egg Head of Doom!

Here's one of the Caucasian textures I am working on for this character. Going for a sort of tough guy russian look.

considering that FPSC doesn't have the best color management, I would bring out the darker colors in the skin. but it looks very good.

I'm feeling pretty happy about the looks here so this should represent fairly close to the final look.

Going to start rigging and animation now.
