Well as some of you (last time a checked 10 - yes 10 people had) have checked out the SJR - The Sad Joke Revolution - and have seen how sad, stupid and pointless it is. Great thats the point.

Now the myself and the rest of the SJR team want a forum for the site, mainly so we can express new ideas, develop old ones etc and so that visters, who can of course can be bothered can voice their own opinions. So I'm asking wheres the best place to set up a forum? Preferably one where we could have some admin control over it, as I don't really want to find 5 mg of flame wars the when I visit it.

Well thats me done, thanks.

1) hehe, you wrote 5 milligrams of flame war
2) I'm making my own forum with php. If you don't want to do that then:
3) you can check out www.phpbb.com
I haven't tested it, so I don't know how easy it is to use. What server are you using? You'll need a pretty good one to have a forum on it.
4) Adding a forum doesn't mean instant popularity. My university has had a forum for over a year and it has a grand total of 7 members.

aimoo is a nice one... but it's put at a new site like www.aimoo.com/blahblahblah/blahblahblah
but just replace it with a nice free .tk domain, or you can just have a link on ur site to go to it to save people the typing, i use this, check LFS forums out! [href]www.liquid-forum.tk[/href]
u can get ur own forum 4 free at: [href]www.aimoo.com[/href] or somethin like that
i cheat i dont code, but i might some time, the problem wit these forums is u get a limmited choice of things to do 4 free

You did what? For who?! For how many jellybeans?!?

Vapournet.com has cheap (12 pounds a year) hosting, and that offers PHP, it has 10 MySQL databases. Try www.dbpcommunity.com and as Jimmy for a mysql database for a phpbb forum.

'(much better designed than these forums)'

Last I checked, PHPBB didn't inform you if an identical post was already made-- sheer brilliance on Rich's part, preventing double-posting completely. But it was slow and clunky. That's the problem with most established forum types-- they have all these features that generally aren't used and end up making posts five times longer than their text content. Apollo is simple and bloody fast, I prefer it above all other forum types I've encountered excepting only vBulletin.

Flame war? Sorry ppl! I know forums don't mean instant popularity, having our own forum is really for us to keep in contact and abuse each other a little bit .

I was really looking for an external one (sorry if I didn't mention that before) seeing as im using a .uk.tt redirect to my BT accounts webspace, I doubt I can fit a forum in under 10mgs

Thanks for your suggestions!

Check out the website:

www.sadjokerevolution.uk.tt

And yes it's meant to be that sad, pointless and stupid!

In your facts of life page:

'It's LEGAL to shoot (and kill) someone entering your property without permission.'

Disregarding the fact that although the act is legal, the murder would need justification... where's the funniness in that? It's a damn sad country where you can't defend your property against breaking and entering.

Well as it says on the front page "If you don't find it funny you need to get rid of your life", its just really a collection of sad things that we find funny, the SJR memembers that is.

And in Texas it doesn't if someones in your house stealing then you can shoot them without problem, we think that that is a pretty stupid law so we put it up.

Stupid bloody britain (get rid of labour, bnp looks a good choice for the next election),

anyway, for remotely hosted forums, i would recommend http://www.boardnation.com (who have no ads, and is pretty fast, based on yabbse).

and i too maybe making my own forum, but this all depends on what else i have to do (obviously). forums are pretty easy to make in asp, and even easier to make in php. the only problem is how much time you can spend on making the forum.

BNP? No thank you. Hey maybe the SJR could become a political party... No alot would get done since we're so lazy... But at least we'd have a few billion to get a decent website designer!

If yuo did that here in Australia, shot someone entering your house, you can be sued by the person who you shot (it's actually happened a number of times) and then that person, that you shot, who was breaking into your house, would recieve all sorts of benifits, and you have to pay them damages, oh, and if they actaully stole anything, then they get off with it scot-free, dunno why though....

Its a f*cked up world...

@JessTicular: what happens if the person that got shot at dies? Does the family get to sue you? If not, then shoot to kill, or not at all.

By expanding on this mathamatical veiw of off topicness we have once again moved the thread further away from it's point... Whatever it's long forgotten point was...

Then you get charged with murder, but it gets dropped slightly cos it would be "self-defence" but you'd still get whacked in jail... That's happened before too...

The law sucks... Just like Gravity...

np... i know how annoyingly stupid and self absorbed these people can be sometimes

phpBB is one i'd recommend as it uses older MySql and php which makes it more comptible even on free servers.
and it'll take approx. 15mins to upload each time you edit it, not because it's big but there are hundreds of files - stupid but ftp's tend to reset connections after each file, makes them damn slow.
