lightmaptextsize doesn't effect the quality.
Set the quality to 25-75.

A good alround value to change to in the FPSC setup file is:
lightmaptexsize=1024
lightmapquality=100

To get the crisp shadows your talking about you can place a light marker above a 'Static' model with no transparency on the texture.
The model of the 'let's say' ceiling grate must be a solid model and be in FPSC 'Static' mode.
This should create nice crisp shadow casts using light markers when using the the values above.

Check out the screenie here to see the results that I got when creating a room with my ceiling fan models from MP41.

Hope this makes sense and all the best of luck.

One method of creating a 'lower' poly model is to have a single flat plane instead of 'let's say' criss cross bars. On the texture for that plain the bars will be drawn and the gaps inbetween the bars will be made transparent for the final texture.
Unfortunatly, when a light is placed above the final model done with this method crisp shadows cannot be created.
It's best to have fully 3D modeled bars on the model but as you might guess the poly count for the model will be much more.

Hope this helps.

ok have you done the Basic thing, and turn your ambiance light down to about 10, and add a just single light in just one room that is set to about 30%

i tried this high setting and my small map of 680mb shot up to well over the 1.800mb and fpsc editor crashed, as it reached the cap limit,
And so it increases the level by over 3 times the size.

may be ok for show box maps but as i tend to us more on the out door scenes,
and i use these settings

lightmaptexsize=256
lightmapquality=5
And just to mention is that i do rather have a few indoor maps and all shadows still work just fine, i did get a bit of a corner wall segment blur in one room at the top of corner but i don't have a light there and is not realy noticable.
But i will increase and keep the lightmaptexsize=256 @ 512.

And so now i now how to reduce a map size if i need more contents

I'am not GOD but i can make you see again by taking my fingers out of your eyes and i can make you walk again by taking your beer away, but if you take my beer you will not walk again
