All

Its a been a while since we heard anything official about FPSC updates and what V119 might bring.

I'd be interested to know what the community are hoping to see in the next update and who knows maybe they can be implemented. I'll keep a poll of the most common requests and send them to Lee for considerations. Here are mine.

Occlusion culling - Reducing the amount of draw calls required for FPSC to render a scene will be a huge step to getting the kind of performance we would like to have in our games.

Deferred rendering - This would bring dynamic shadows and suit the FPSC lighting system i.e. very scalable with lots of point lights. It would also improve build times and reduce memory consumption.

We need to go for the big wins that will benefit everybody and make FPSC a fundamentally better game platform to work with.

Lets hear yours

An easy to use point system for "arcade" styled ganeplay with high scores.

It's been done in AAA FPS games already so why not FPSC?

Besides the high scores, this could be scripted easily.

All I want is for overlays to not cast shadows, without having to make them dynamic. This is so stupidly easy to add to the lightmapper with Dark Lights.

Two things don't know if they are possible

The ability to test your light placement without having to run a test game.

To be ablility to rotate light markers.

Can't this already be done by adding castshadow = 0 in the FPE.

Nope.

Is castshadow even a thing? I've tried it for multiple purposes, including static overlay shadows and character blob shadows, and it has to effect on anything.

I would like:

- more control over camera placement
- better optimisation
- address any issues (as far as possible) with running final games on newer operating systems
- Official templates for a basic inventory system so those who are not heavily into coding can quickly adapt it.
- official template for an interactive HUD that can be easily adjusted.
- proper updated and consolidated documentation that describes the new features and provides some examples. Trying to find out basics about new features via the forums is not good enough for a professionally produced product. It puts off new users, and FPSC needs as many active customers as it can get.
- a ready alternative to the annoying stock jump sound

Some of these are easy, some not. Some mods have them, some don't...but I don't want to rely on an unofficial mod that won't be kept up to date with new stock versions.

That the things you did in a level would be saved so if you visit it again within the game the enemys you killed, stay death, the items you already took aren't there anymore etc.

The first thing I would like to see, as Troutflies said, is a BUG FIX! Specifically, I would like to see that if you change a character's FPE, or edit the "bulletholes" files, or any files for that matter, it doesn't cause the Editor to crash. I would also like to see a better game-save system. The current one doesn't properly display HUDs when reloaded and when the character dies and restarts at the spawn point, the camera is constantly zooming in and out, the Health HUD still says the player has 0 health and the player can't move (ie: the player is still dead even though the eye-damage HUD is gone).

Those should be fixed first, amongst other things. They should also fix the "Repair" option in the uninstaller. It broke my FPSC a few months ago and I am still trying to fix it!

EDIT:

Also, here is something that WILL be in 1.19. Scroll down to Hockeykid's post and you'll see it and a link to the code he wrote for it. http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=188738&b=21

One of the most humbling days in your life will be the day you discover you AREN'T the best at what you love to do.
