I haven't found out about this until recently, and it's just incredible. It's so exciting to see that they're finally implementing tessellation functionality INSIDE graphics cards, instead of just a software emulation. This makes processing effects like this much faster and more feasible in games. If someone ever made a DX11 port of DBPro this is one of the key things I would add.

This has been around quite a while

you can get it running in several games, though it's less noticeable in games like STALKER-CoP. It's probably best used so far in Cryis 2

It has? Well the video was posted a year ago, so I suppose it isn't recent. Still it's a huuuuge advent in graphics. It'd be cool to see a world editor capable of using this for realistic terrain, then saving it as a simplified mesh with tessellation code/data for use in something like DBPro.

I suppose I can't be surprised that a game like Crysis 2 would be implementing this straight away, but has hardware tessellation really become common in modern games as of yet? If I ever upgrade to a decent computer I'd like to play something with that type of quality. =D

For most games, tesselation is either used for smoothing character silhouettes or turning the Parralax map Illusion into it's real geometry equivalent, like so

It can't really do complex geometry though
So It's biggest use is for pleasing PC gamers, who notch described as wandering around "staring at textures"

But of course, this is old news, Shame on you for not staying up-to-date of graphics news

I agree, I really need to be on top of changes like this. Now that I think of it, are there any newsletters/etc for that? I'm curious now and I'm really into graphics programming.

I'm actually working on a DirectX11 engine, could be up on tgc in a month or two, it's not like dbp, its a C++ .lib, yet i don't have "support" for this, but if the user knows what he's doing, he can do it :3, since you have access to all shaders (pixel/vertex/hull/compute/domain/geometry)

though, i'm putting much effort to add features and tessellation will surely be on the list soon, the video is just motivating me

Follow RockPaperShotgun or PCgamer on twitter or add them to your homepages. They do generic gaming news, but They documented the DX11 patch for crysis 2 well

as for the tech itself, try your local Geforce site, this is the us one (blind guess)

Thanks ocho, I'll be getting into all those normally from now on. I also found this after reading a bit of a book called Real-Time Rendering. I'll be up to par on these things, that is for sure

Good luck on that engine Hassan, can't wait to see your progress on it
