I've tried searching the forums for this specific issue, looked through the manual, etc so posting this is my last resort before I have to start shaving my head from pulling out so much hair...

I have two different room segments which I am placing on top of each other in my level. The ceiling texture of the bottom room changes to the floor texture of the top room. This keeps happening no matter what order I create the rooms. However, if I mix segments from different packs, sometimes the ceiling stays and sometimes it changes. I cannot for the life of me figure out why.

Now, is this a bug in the editor or am I just doing something wrong? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ahead of time

Try deleting the ceiling of the bottom segment and then placing the top segment on top. If that doesn't work try playing with floor only and wall only modes

Let me know hownthis works out for you...

Cheers,
Anayar

It depends on how the room segments you are using were put together. For example, my wife created a SciFi segment pack. When I place the room segments on top of one another, she has a texture for the ceiling specified, and a texture for the floor specified. This way if I place a room segment on the top of a previous segment, the ceiling I have in the lower will not change. I don't have to delete a ceiling and put in the floor, or vice versa. It does it in one placement.

So it is nothing to do with the editor or you, but how those particular segments were put together.

@anayar - I tried that approach as well and it didn't work, unfortunately.

Working with floor only / wall only mode also brought it's own set of problems, oddly enough. Trying to change just the floor of segment A into the floor of segment B while in floor only mode changed the walls too!

I'm going to guess that this result goes hand in hand with BlackFox's comment regarding how the segments were put together. I'm going to try and manually edit the segments so they are set up as suggested.

Thanks for the help, guys!

All of the default segments was created as a whole room segment.

All floors and ceiling that i use are created by my self, so i have many varyations
And so i then have walls made as their own type, and also with the floors, and so i can then swap and change floors or walls without to much of a hassle of one effecting another.
But i know what you mean and it is rather a pain.

Just to mention is that one bit of software to make such contents is called Firmsa v2
it will allow you to create the ceiling and florr as wella as the inner and outer walls.

If i remember correctly to paint floor you then select floor and also select the interior mode also, and again floor mode with external mode to paint just the ceiling.

i will go and have a try as i have not tried it out yet as i make all of my own.

Edit:
Well i did go and have a proper try, and as mentioend.

changing just the floor in a room that is made from another room segment also changes the room/wall or floor to the one that the wall or floor is from, eithe if you just select the paint only wall or floor. also tried Lower Mid and Top of the same room segment in turn on there own, and they also change other parts of existing room.

Note: all room segments was tested from the Ww2 Chateau and bunker Storage Area.

So in short , part of a segment can't completly work on its own when using in an area where there is already another type of segment, so part of the segment don't work independantly, and thus this is an editor issue and not of a room segment.

But if the floor/ceiling is made sepratly and also the wall, then either one can be changed for another one with no problem.

It just seems to be if a segment is created with the walls and floor/ceiling all in one that they can't be painted properly as a independant item into another room segment.

And the only option/solution is the way i do mine all the time, and that is make the floors and walls seperatly.

Using such a software like firma will make your floors & wall in no time at all.

Thanks for taking the time to help test and confirm what the problem is! Unfortunately, I've tried to install Firma v2 and it gives me run time errors and won't run for me. Even the update file won't update to v2.2 so I'm a bit dead in the water there. However, this now confirms exactly what I need to do to fix this issue and I will now look into other segment editors!

Hopefully if someone else runs into this issue, this thread will help them! Thanks everyone!

I've had to solve this problem for my game as well.

The solution I came up with in the end was (after a lot of trial and error playing with .fps files), I manually created a seperate floor segment, but used the same settings for a gantry cross segment.

So now what I do, is to place the room segments, one on top of the other, then replace the top room's floor, with the new custom cross gantry floor.

@bruce - so basically creating a "floor only" segment? And that doesn't replace the ceiling texture of the segment below it? Not quite sure what you mean by "cross gantry segment", exactly. Is that a 4 way or T-Junction segment?

I think the only reson it removes the wall it cause the actual size of the segment (model) is larger then the walls and then removes it. Where as the cross grantry segment is samller and made to fit respectively inside other segments where it does automaticly remove the wall.

thats just my thought. I have also run into the same problem.

Me = noob

and i love The TGC : )

You can turn 'OFF' the automatic ceiling feature in the current version of FPSC (Look at code snippet below).
To turn off Auto-Ceiling...

Now just use a program like 'Signs' to create a room segment with a ceiling.

I hope this helps and all the best of luck.
