For this compo we want you to take us to the Movies! you can draw your inspiration from the Classics, Comedy, Drama, Action, Horror, Science Fiction, or even Animated. Be it a scene, a prop, a character, a gadget, a vehicle or anything you can tie into the Movie theme.

Have Fun and we will be watching from the front row seats!

Cheers!

The Compo will run up to and including October 26th.

Edit: Here is my final entry. The Items I made are: Both Books from the Evil Dead Movie, Hellrasier cube, and the Blade used in Jeepers Creepers 2 movie. This Knife was used in the scene where the Creeper impales Scotty Braddock's arm to a tree with one of his signature bone handle knives during a chase. You can view it in attachment below.

For those thinking of multiple entries,.. why not put all your ideas and entries in one render? You're allowed as many models as you like, but only one entry, if you put them all in one scene, then they would all qualify. the trick will be to make it look like they all fit as an ensemble. A prop room, like one of the previous compos would be one idea to hold all your thing-a-ma-jigs and widgets.

Cheers!

I would say no to TV=Movies. However if a TV show or series had a Movie made based on it, then you're good to go.

Cheers!

I have a question, i have a game that i want to model for, and there is like a 10 minute youtube movie on it, so would that count?

I am fairly sure we can say like this: a movie you would see in the theatres is what we should base of, not a shortmovie on youtube /in that sense, then tv series should be fine and then we could pretty much make anything...\

Please, don't stretch the boundaries of this compo, there are literally tens of thousands of 'Movies', and in those millions of items/props actors, sets etc. And here I thought most of us had 'Favorite' movie and could draw our inspiration from them. I guess that in this day and age, it's not entirely impossible that someone has never been to a movie and who's movie experience is limited to Videos/DvD's and TV.

The theme is "At the MOVIES!".

Cheers!

Well I finally finished the modelling.
Exported it to povray for the render.
Everything crashed.

The model is corrupted and won't open anymore

But I had the povray export so at least I got a render of it.

There's going to be no texturing unfortunately, I'm not starting again from scratch....(as my mrs suggested)

WIP.

I always felt the human/alien hybrid in Alien Resurrection lacked the human curves and angular bony structure that Giger (rightly) became so famous for in his original design. Though the face was kinda creepy the rest of it looked like an emaciated Pilsbury Dough Man, I know the Queen had inherited a womb from Ripley's DNA but dont see why that should mean such a departure from the alien.

This is my own take on what it could have looked like, I dont believe I could even come close to designing like the pro's on the movie but I kinda like it better as it looks much sleeker and faster.

Could double up as some kind of Horror movie demon, along the lines of Constantine perhaps.

Still working on the feet and hands but will wrap it up soon enough.

@ rolfy
love the model being a die hard alien fan it looks amazing
would love to se some sort of small tail, or mabie a more elongated head, but i must agree with you the (human/alien hybrid)
was a bit of a let down, more cute than scary.

The hybrid didnt have a tail as I remember and the elongated head was fused to the back and shoulders.the skin was softer which I have tried to do. Its just my own take on it, I reckon it would have been interesting to see how this particular Alien developed as it would likely have been a tool and weapon user. Also it should be more of a thinker, a lot less like the common drones and hive beasts we were used to. Yeah....Aliens rock!!

Freedy rocks too!! nice work all round in here.

Gotta love those horror movies.

Ooh fun comp.
Just noticed this so figured I'd join in a bit late, here's what I've been toying about with in zbrush so far, taking lots of inspiration from various things from the alien movies.

I've been busy with school lately, I haven't had time to texture, so this is my entry.

Looking at the other entries, I've got a bad feeling about this, I don't think I have a very good chance, but never tell me the odds. There's a few issues with the model, sorry about the mess.

Okay, I'm done.

This is my preliminary entry just to confirm my entry. It is the type of shot of earth you might see from space in movies. i have a few elements I want to add that I will if I get time. If I am not able to please consider this my final entry.

To prove that this actual IS a 3D model and rendering and NOT just a 2D image editd the scene in the Max viewport is shown below

EDIT: How bout a better screenshot
Max Viewport:

Unfortunately I was unable to finish the Fighter from Star Wars in time, but maybe in the future huh ?

Cheers,
Anayar

Not sure if I'm still able to enter here but I haven't quite seen any confirmation of the comp being over. If this is too late then just take the previous one I posted but if not I'd like you to take this one It's all around 6k polygons.

as stated in the original post..

The Compo will run up to and including October 26th.

On the morning of the 27th I gathered up all the entries we had at that point and presented them for judging.

The results should be in the newsletter as well as the next compo theme.

Cheers!

p.s. and there were quite a few entries this time, judging was more difficult than ever. Nice to see all the great entries.

Badges have been set, Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all who entered, it was the toughest compo for us to judge so far.

Let's make the next compo just as fun.

Ditto to what David has said, entries are just getting better and better and as a result, making it tougher for us to judge!

And big thanks to David for coming up with these really awesome compo ideas. The most exciting idea I can come up with for a 3D compo is modelling bran flakes... (Obviously not, that would be silly).
