STATUS: OFFICIAL

DEADLINE: Nov, 18th

MESSAGE TO MOD/EVERYONE: I wanted this to be a yearly thing, and hope that maybe the mods will give me a little more officialism when it comes to these things, instead of making a thread like this and waiting for mod to happen upon it (or someone emailing them). It would be awesome if I had a title for myself or something next to my name ("banner contest creator" or something *wink* *wink) or/and I actually had the power to change the banners myself.

Maybe a title like?

The Banner Guru

I propose we try to make this a yearly thing, if not, or if users are opposed to it, post your thoughts here.

What do you guys think about this?

Rules:

1. The image must be 459x60

2. The image theme must center around the forums

3. It can be an internet meme, but still must center around the forum theme of "geeks" and "nerds". Please try to to heavily use commercial icons.

4. All artwork must be original. Artwork is not any images from a meme/game. Banners can contain TGC related things, such as program icons, screenshot, ect. like this banner:

5. Try to add a black fadeout gradient on the left side of your images so it flows with the webpage

6. Try to create a modern funny image, think about what's "in" today for nerds and geeks

7. Save as .JPG only, no other formats (this includes animated .GIF's)

How will the images be chosen?

If it goes again like last time, images will be chosen based on how well they fit with the website and what content they contain (to-be-determined by a mod).

How many images will be chosen?

All of them will just put in one gaint .ZIP file by me and sent

I don't have an image editing program...

Here are some free (and powerful tools):

Paint.NET
GIMP
Pixlr

I am not a fan of MLP , but that's just me

@The Slayer

EPIC!

@*everyone*

I was hoping for this sometime soon... why cant it simply be a continually added element? 9I understand someone has to implement it...) but it will be so worth it ^^

Keep peeled for my entries... they might not be as good as the current entires but... will try.

For anyone making these banners, remember that the left edge has to be black.

IIRC We had a community banner competition sometime back in 2005 I believe. I could be off a year or so. Not sure why it didn't continue every year?

@The Slayer,
TGC has been around longer than 10 years (since 1999). I believe it's the Apollo Forum that came into existence in Aug 2002; but that may be what you are referring to.

Anyways, we need some updates to the TGC history. I remember a thread from way back...

Thanks, MrValentine. Looking forward to see yours.

Yeah, not sure if someone would find the time to continually add/change banners.

It would be nice to have some animated banners, though.

Yep, that's what I'm referring to with the banner.
Maybe I should adjust the banner a bit so that it is more obvious.

I would love to get this going at a continually added element, as last year when I started this, it turned out so well (*le old thread*)

I wanted this to be a yearly thing, and hope that maybe the mods will give me a little more officialism when it comes to these things, instead of making a thread like this and waiting for mod to happen upon it (or someone emailing them). I would love that to, but I think it would require to much bandwidth...sadly

I remember when the first one was run that picked what might be the current set of banners, or a previous iteration. It feels like a long long time ago (I have a screenshot with one of my banners on the site as a test, using what looks like ie5).

I think was one of mine that got shortlisted, but it might have been one of the others I made.

If it still meets the dimensions feel free to enter it again

edit i found , and that I was hosting for megaton last time. I've not heard from him in years so I don't know if he'd really want to enter them again.

All the files are dated 1st of July 2004, for those interested in a little history.

edit2: another image I found with one of my other submissions, a little taste of the times: http://www.lochviewwest.plus.com/dblogos/look4.JPG

Another entry by me.

Just wish to know if this is going to be official or not? Don't wanna spend useless time designing banners. Have other things on my mind.
Could a mod or someone else in charge answer that question, please? Thank you.

Here's a new one... if youve been to the FPSc Forums recently youd know where inspiration for this comes from.

I have an idea for one, I just gotta re-install doom on my machine, get the right ending caption.

There was one that I never could forget that I think could be utilized in this.

Quote: "DON'T LEAVE NOW WHEN YOU COME BACK, I'LL BE WAITING WITH A BAT. LOVE, THE GAME CREATORS."

EDIT: Or maybe not... I forgot that Bethesda owns id now, and they might try to sue us like Mojang.
