A quick Google search has turned over nothing so on the offchance someone has done something like this before I thought I'd ask here.

A friend of mine has had their album uploaded to Mediafire and linked on a blog. Normally this wouldn't be a problem really as it generates interest in the band, but this guy is trying to make a living and thus it's quite damaging.

Anyway, I found it odd that there is no obvious way to report a file on Mediafire for takedown - I'm guessing either I or he will have to fire off an email claiming ownership?

Found by a Google search for mediafire abuse.

Personally I'd be inclined to try and get it removed from sites like mediafire. They make it so annoying to actually download content I'd guess a lot of their users have no interest in actually paying for it. Kind of the opposite to youtube where it is very easy to view but requires a little more effort to download.

I don't think that's odd. IMO the business model of these sort of sites is not very ethical. There is a reason the big names who have the server farms to offer this sort of service don't.

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.

http://www.mediafire.com/contact_us.php

and pay special attention to this bit

Quote: "File Abuse

"

Hope this helped...

I don't appreciate that really as I did state that I was looking for an obvious way to report a file which preferably didn't involve emailing.

Hmm, I guess it's nothing out of the ordinary, sad world really.

That was a bit childish...and if your unwilling to communicate directly then how exactly would you tell them? Were you expecting an 'abuse button'? Heck, even when you hit the TGC abuse button you have to write up the reason and leave your email...which is essentially the exact same thing as sending an email...

As Senor Valentine's post suggests, it's likely as their 'contact us' section offers no alternative. I'd suspect if there was an alternative they'd mention it and it'd be very strange if they didn't.

I can't think of any way better to deal with this other than through email, for them and for you.
