Hi all,

So I've occasionally ran into the issue of trying to run my game on other people's computer and having it saying "could not find this dll" or "could not find that dll".
So, my question is, pure and simple, when I'm making up my installer for my game, what do I need to add?

I'm fairly sure that I need to add "DirectX 9.0c" and "Microsoft C++ Redistributable"

However, I've done that too on people's computers and it's still said they're missing certain dll's. From memory it was MSVCP100.DLL, but there are a few and I just want to get my facts straight.

I imagine that different things are needed for different add-ons, so here are the add ons I am running in my IDE:

- Dark Basic Professional
- Styx
- Dark Imposters
- Dark Clouds
- Blitzwerks Terrain
- Dark Lights
- Dark AI
- Dark Physics
- eXtends

Also, if there are certain things required, could I get some advice as to which version is needed?

For example, if someone is running Windows 7 with DirectX 11, that doesn't necessarily have the DirectX 9 DLLs that are required, and so they need to be installed separately.

If you build your installer using the merge module provided by Lee for AppUp that will cover all the dll's required for DBP.

Looking at the list of other dll's you are using I'd say you are fine except for Dark Physics. You may need to include an installer for the correct version of the PhysX runtimes and check whether it is installed when you first run your game. If it is not installed you will need to run the installer.

What are you using to build the installer?

If you look on the first page of the App Developers Group thread you'll find links at the bottom of the first post to a visual studio installer template (made by me) which includes the merge module and a silent installer setup that could easily be edited to build a 'none silent' / standard installer.

There are also links for building an installer using War Setup if you prefer.

The free msi builder by mr_d builds a silent installer only which might not suit your needs...

The msvcp100.dll is requiered by the blitzterrain plugin, and it's part of the Microsoft c++ redistributable. The redist you added to the installer may be older, and it does not contain that needed file.

No place like 127.0.0.1 .

@miso - I added on the 2008 redist which I thought would be best, but obviously not I'll try and find the 2010 or 2011 and see how it goes

@baxlash - Ah, that's handy. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 to make my installer, so I should be able to make use of that template. That's very handy. Thanks for that!

No problem, you just need to add in the dll for BT as stated above and then in VS add some dialogs to the installer and edit the properties to suit your game...

Game's looking amazing by the way personally I used to play Eye of the Beholder and I love that genre.

If you need any further help just shout!
