Ok. So I have the money lying around for 3D studio max, but I'm having trouble convincing myself to actually pull the trigger and buy it. One thing I want to do is to get a custom character fully working to prove I can do it, then I might be convinced. So I have the 30-day trial, made a simple stick figure, rigged it to the FPSC character studio rig, UV mapped a simple texture, export it using panda exporter and import it using the makeentitiesfromxfiles program and place it in the editor. 2 problems.

1. the character is lying face down in the editor. I'm rigging it to the FPSC 3Dmax file, how is it not correct already?

2. So I rotate the character so it is up right and run a test and the shadow of the character is there and I can collide with him, but there is no visible model at all and it does not move or shoot.

I've been using this software long enough to know I'm at fault not the editor, but after many failed and repeated results I'm at a loss. Can someone help me out here?

Thanks All.

Before making such a large Purchase with 3DSMax, I suggest you check out one of the cheaper of Free modeling programs which are more than capable of creating animated characters for FPSC (I recommend Milkshape because it has many tutorials and export options).
I don't use 3DSMax (too expensive) but maybe your problem lies within the 'Exporting' process with Max (export skin & bones ?).

EDIT - Rather than using the FPSC make entities program.
Another thing you could try is to copy an existing FPSC characters '.FPE' file and rename and re-address it to your models media and test that. Don't forget to 'delete' any '.BIN & .DBO' files before re-testing the same model with any changes to its FPE file.

I hope someone can help you more with this.
All the best of luck.

Thanks Ross tra damus. I'm not worried about the money and I am already well versed (16 years+) in Autodesk Technology. But I will try your suggestions of copying an existing character and see if that helps.

Show some pictures of the guy in the 3ds max editor then I can tell you why he is not in the correct position. He is not animted for the fact you did not have the correct options selected in panda exporter when you exported him out,I use the instructions in the fpsc download files web site.

Here is the link to the said site to know how to set your panda exporter.
