Small/Medium/Whatever Update:

I have been still looking into Ogre3D, but got some work on the engine itself also done.

- Multithreaded Trigger Event Check [ This checks if player is in any trigger, it is multithreaded. ]

- Multithreaded Object Hierarchy Distance Sorter [ This allows you to get distance from objects to player without any calculations, as the calculations are already beeing done by a multithreaded function. ]

Example:

I took the same script as I posted before, the weaponglow.lua script. My goal here was to hide the entity if player is within a range, without making any calculation on the distance.

I will post the full scripting command list soon, so people can contribute to it, by requesting.

Quote: "Any vids coming out soon of your wip"

Yes, I think so. Maxi and I are preparing stuff to create a setup of the engine-video and a creating a simple level-video.

This is a great concept, and hopefully, will be more powerful than FPSC. I cannot wait to see the end product. While it is highly unlikely that I will end up using it for any big projects (I have moved over to unity), I will certainly download it, and possibly buy it (assuming you amke a paid version). Best of luck!!

@Traxas: How did you know?

@Slayer267 and all: Each new beta will be released to public, so the community will be beta tester, the current state is at alpha and those alpha versions are for lolcats only, which are Maxi, knxrb and s4real, and me.

I updated the first post. With command list and a summary of the updates I presented in the thread itself.

Sorry, but that's just too funny.

ON-TOPIC:

Will this be like a seperate program from FPSC that is launched when test game is on, or is it going to be built into the engine itself?

This will become clear when we release some of our videos we are recording.

Some Updates:

- I have be en reorganizing code (scene manager stuff) as I have been adding alot of features without working with some kind of scene manager to manage all the stuff.
- Plugin Container! Develop your own plugins for editor or engine, drop them to the plugin folder and engine will load it up!

I reorganized my code. Still need to do some clean up work on the Scripting System class, and Editor class. But for now I would like to present you a stable version 1 of the Fullscreenshader system. You will be able to use:

...and switch between fullscreenshaders with:

Here is a screenshot of my "ColorHUE with some other paramters"-changer. (Realtime in Engine)

i even try downloading vid from site , only to get adverts again, at 28 seconds every 5 to 10 second interfalls. the site is just to heavly spammed with adverts.

New update fellow developers!

We have been very busy so we couldnt update you very much, so here i bring you some good and bad news, well lets start with the good news first!
These are the direct words from Red Eye, he explains what he has been working on
Quote: "I have started a custom DirectSound Class, which allows instant buffer Effects, so you can have different kind of effects over your .wav file.
And been working on the fullscreenshader system, adding commands to edit the shader's values.
I have also slowly started implementing DarkAI.
"

I have been working on some models for the tech demo, i have attached a screenshot of the wip assets i have made so far in max. But school has forced me to stop it, too much tests and things to do
Heres the bad news :
We will stop the project for three weeks, yes, only three weeks, after that we will be able to continue working on this, due to school/exams.
The exact start time is 23 November.

Hope you understand us, good luck

Very good to hear you are working on the sound engine. It is lacking...greatly...in both fpscx9 and x10.

You should consider creating a paypal donation site for the project. Of course, the downside (or upside) is that it adds another layer of commitment to completing the project but that's not a bad thing. In the meantime, it gives you a little pocket change to help compensate your time.

@Red Eye, are you going to be using Dark Physics or Dark Dynamix(a newer wrapper for nVidia PhysX)?

I'd actually recommend using Bullet Physics, but it's your prerogative.

I'll be watching this with interest. Throw me an e-mail if I can do anything to help.

That's a great offer thanks! But funny enough I started my own hosting service, that will up on our website soon. I attached a pdf file what I offer. Thank you alot for your offer though!

@s4real: Thanks for the support!

@Dar13: To be honest, I have no idea which wrapper I will use. Currently I was thinking either DarkDynamiX (not bought) or DarkPhysics(bought). Thanks for your interest! We are developing the engine based on Open-Moddable, and hope to introduce this new term to the community soon. This does not mean it is open source. It means you can mod the engine by using the Plugin Container. I look forward to see people contributing to this Plugin Container as soon as the engine beta is out.

I have no plans todo that. It is my engine so I dont see the point of people paying me to create my own engine. When the comercial version of the version is out there will be a price set to buy it. There will also be a free non comercial version downloadable.

Sometimes I wonder if people even read the thread before they post.

Please read these:
Quote: "I started creating my own engine"

Quote: "This engine has nothing to do with the current engine made by TGC."

Quote: "I programmed the engine in C++"

Quote: "I have no idea how much it will cost yet."

Quote: "When the comercial version of the version is out there will be a price set to buy it."

I think we can assume that even if Lee did want to add this to v1.19, Red Eye probably would not. He has put a lot of work into this project.

No, it`s not as this is an engine where users can build the maps with FPSC (as far as I understood it yet)

Come to where the madness is:

@Hamburger: I contacted Lee about this. I didn't asked for permission to quote him, but basically he said I should continue working on it .

@JRH: Haha, thanks mate! Thanks for the folowing the thread btw. Feels like it is worthy to keep working on engine with people like you.

@Ertlov: Yup, that is correct. You use FPSC Editor to create your games and run it with our engine.

@KeithC: Great to see you are folowing the thread too! Appreciate it. We will continue working on this on the date set, altough we haven't totally stopped it, we havent produced any code since maxi commented, but we did planned alot of what we are going to do when we start again. I will keep you updated .

@TheDesertEagle: We don't know yet how much it will cost, but I am afraid it won't be free. There will be a free version though.

Cheers,

@Tanya: Thank you very much!

@angusm3: Actually I started doing some preparatory work! (is that the english word for it? )

Anyway. I added some new commands and fixed some bugs with the lensflares/skyboxes/lightscattering-combination, it is all working now. Here is a list of the new commands:

These are some cool other script commands (some of them are still wip):

--Plugins for the Plugin Container (=encrypted scripts to use in your editor/game)
1. Day to Night System [WIP]

This is our first official contribution to the plugin container. Basically to test it out, but we hope the community will too add some nice plugins to the plugin container this way the engine will be able to grow faster.

Next on our list:
- Adding more features to the Full Screen Shader System
- Integration of the Direct Sound Module written
- Integration of the Animation System written
- Adding Trigger Zones
- Request JRH: Commands for flexible creation of Menu/HUDS

Example of ShaderSystem + SkySystem, on the same old boring scene (simple.fpm).

I attached my personal HUEChanger (it could use some good optimizing tho), but just gave something i had lying around for a test.

@s4real: Thank you very much.

Marc Steene has joined our team as a beta tester and scripter.

We have been working hard on both the engine/plugins and the techdemo.

First let me start showing this screenshot: ( a simple screenshot with a gun firing animation )

The gun animations are controlled with the new Animation System, which is still wip, but already handles basic animations.

The Weapon Inventory and the handling of weapons in the scene are done with an Plugin : WeaponManager.lua (which is an open source plugin within our Plugin Container).

We added new commands:

We have added the possibility to edit your scripts from the engine itself, so you dont need third party apps. We kept this editor very simple, Open Script / Edit Script / Save Script. Here is a screenshot taken after clicking "Edit Script" in the properties window.

We also added watermark for the free version of the engine. All credits go to JTK. Who has helped me to get it working!

Any mod that improves the lightmaping/inialization of the engine can be used with LighetStorm Engine. If LewMod improved that, then yes, else there is no reason to use it with the LightStorm Engine, but I will give the few lines of code to any modder that wants to start the LightStormEngine in their mod.
I know that Fenix Mod is a great example of improving lighmapping and building time.

Quote: "if you need another coder I've done a well bit of C++ in my day, though I'm a little rusty"

So far all the coding has been done by me, it would be great to have a member that is willing to help coding the engine, but I am trying to achieve a stable beta for public techdemo after that all the help is awesome. We can talk further about it on msn:
.

Update/Bump:

Let me start of by saying the folowing:

"My sincere apologizes for not bringing any new updates."

So because of personal reasons...

...the engine will be free.

Firstly because I like TGC forums too much and secondly I think it would be nice if people could contribute to it, as the progress would go faster etc.

So if you are willing to contribute add me on:

So no! the engine is not dead . Very much alive, it is!

Alpha/Beta testers/programmers/Lua scripters/designers... anybody can contribute.

I may add some donation button in the thread (or new thread if I get the permission of a mod, because he would need to delete this one later). (All money will be invested in the progress of the engine | distribute through the contributers or interested plugins that has been requested by the community!)

This is my final year at school so I hope you understand how busy I am currently. At the moment I personally am not able to produce anything till 5 february.

Thus.... Email me or Add me on Skype. If you are willing to join the progress of LightStormEngine.

This happens so often... development is going great then BAM... Life has to come and interfere...

Quote: "Alpha/Beta testers/programmers/Lua scripters/designers... anybody can contribute"

I'd appreciate the opportunity to contribute. I stopped using MSN as much, since I spent too much time talking to people about the development of my projects, rather than actually programming them...

I haven't got much on my plate for the next few weeks, so if you agree to let me onto the team it'll give me some time to play catch-up and see what you've already done, as well as understand the muddle that any self-taught programmer produces (don't deny it! we all do it).

Best of luck with your school and life interferences by the way
