I have decided to make an hour design contest where you have one hour to make one level as best as you can!

Critic Sheet

Level Design - 0-20 points
Framerate - 0-30 points
Fun Factor - 0-25 points
SFX - 0-20 points

____________________________________
Rules!

*You have to record yourself making the game so we can verify that it took you one hour!

*Please no profanity in the game... Hope you guys can go one level without it!

Prizes!

1st - 15 overlays,10 sounds,and 10 trees all by me
2nd - 10 overlays,7 sounds, and 7 trees by me

any ideas how we record ourselfs for one hour? I did see a post on the AppGameKit thread when someone had some crazy screen capture program for one of their 48 hour game contests. Maybe you could post some example programes in the OP.

I'm in by the way - I can probably find a spare hour or two this weekend

Just use hypercam or something then record you making the game, and fast forward it in your favorite video editing program.

I find CamStudio works really well. Small filesize generally, and good quality.

Also, is this for both x9 and x10 or just x9?

Ooh! Looks fun!

How do we get our prize?

@LeShorte: CamStudio was an absolute nightmare for me; when I finished and played the video, it was pixelated beyond recognition, and the file size was larger than my game (albeit the game was a small one; about 150 MBs). I might try out Fraps, but I am not sure if I would try to enter; my workload is taxing right now; I am not on FPSC or the forums as much as I used to; hopefully it will change at some point. Great idea though!

I don't recommend fraps free as it only records 30 seconds of footage.

Use hypercam.

So we have one hour to create it, does it only include the work in the editor or the creation of HUDs, re-textures and anything else someone might want to do. And it doesn't include game building does it?

Just building my submission now, but I will over run the 60 mins. The light mapping phase jut takes too long for this competition. Didn't manage to test the game during the hour for the same reason.I'll still post it despite being illegal, so others can see where I went wrong.

Ok, here's my entry "BunkerN" - light mapping took about 10 mins so final build took me 70 mins. Started at 18:45 finished at 19:54.

Game is pretty poor, as expected for an untested game thrown together in 55 mins.

Try it for yourself HERE.

Video to prove what I did:

Personally don't think the final build should count in the 60 mins, just that the build process started.

Crit Sheet

Level Design - 11/20 - Many empty rooms
Frame Rate - 20/30 - Got a 18-23 framerate but it was bareable. Try making post processing to 0 in your setup.INT
Fun Factor - 15/25 - Got bored pretty fast... Not that many people to shoot...
SFX - 5/20 - Not that many sounds but I liked the death sound when I fell out of the map... Twice

Overall 51 Points out of 95 :\ Sorry man but you got screwed at SFX...

okay slayer, I went ahead and made an entry.

started at 10:16 am, and the entirety of the level design and the build took 59 minutes. the object of the game is simple, reach the target in his hotel room and kill him. there is a LOT of parkour involved.

I know you need to judge the framerate and all, but in your A Large Boom WIP thread, you said your GPU was an Intel mobile (R) Chipset Family. You really shouldn't be judging on framerate when you have that and get, as you said, 1-5 FPS.

Cheesehead for life.

My final attempt at an entry for this: CaveN

Basically try and move 5 barrels back to the starting room before the level floods. Simples.

CaveN Review

Level Design - 17-20 points - Wow I really loved the concept that you have to finish the level before your drowned in the water! Where did you get this script! I want to get my hands on it!
Framerate - 28-30 points - Alot better, did you set post processing to 0? Sure seems like it!
Fun Factor - 25-25 points - Awesome! I didn't think you died when you went under water so i tried it and I died. Really love how you have to fight all those dudes!
SFX - 12-20 points - Better with the water sounds and such but no ambience or anything.

Overall - 82 out of 95! This is going to be hard to beat!

Bugsy Review -

Level Design - 20/20 - A+! Everything goes together like a warm blanket!
Frame Rate - 29/30 - Another A+! This was almost perfect!
Fun Factor - 21/25 - I love jumping on stuff!
SFX - 16/20 - See now this is your area of improvement. But I liked the menu music!

Overall - 86/95 Gosh man! Loved the concept and everything! It all fit together. Just plain amazing!

I would love to join in, but i don't have an hour today to do it.. And like someone said above, it takes me well over an hour just for a couple of rooms.

Also, i think you should have more judges to make it fair and it will also give variety as other people might have better/worse system specs than you.

And i recommend FRAPS for recording, as Bugsy's video was impossible to watch.. For a small level in an hour, i can probably record in 720/1080 and still get around 50 framerate.. But i guess it depends on what people's specs are..

ALSO, can this be a multiplayer map? Or only a single player map?

Alright, well i guess im not in on this one then.. Maybe later on make a multiplayer one? It would also benefit the community because there are absolutely NO good multiplayer games for FPSC. And having the competition would help out beginners that are just starting to make multiplayer maps.

the ten trees I'll take whatever variety you choose to give me/is easiest for you. a level designer can never have enough trees.

as for the sounds~ I'd love some ak47 7.62 gunshot sounds, as well as some random "bad guy" yells sounds.

and overlays, can I have paper overlays, but have the paper be the entire overlay so I can use it on quick lighting!

sorry mods I'll figure something else out. for the time being, enjoy this text.
