hi , well i am new here and i need help, i cant believe that someone can help me in this because i am losing hope every day
my problem is after making my model by sketchup for example
i want to put my model inside my fps creator game with texture , i tried every thing but this was useless and in the end i have discovered that fps creator use dds texture only.

so my question is how can i convert 3ds or .x texture into dds texture to make my model in my game multitexture

Hi SKY ANGEL
Fps creator does not just use .DDS image files, but also use Png and Tga, But .DDS is more prefered throughout game developing.

Autodesk is 3ds file format and you can convert if you get a copy of 3d Max and go here to get the plugin.

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?id=10775855&siteID=123112

I would personaly avoid using Sketchup, as it is time consuming to convert using other programs, as you would need to the right ones that allow for import of sketchup suported exports, expesialy in the free version of sketchup.

The pro version has more expots that will make you life more easily on converting,

ok asuming your using free version, you would also need another modeling program that can inport DAE format.

The only one that is free that suports and imports good is blender.
or a high price program like 3D MAX

Milkshape does not import DAE well my latest version does not But it does export fpsc file type of DirectX (.X file )

So in short you will get an headache, and also when importing and exporting from one program to another there are many other settings to ajust to make your model look correct,

I would personaly would use a modeling program that has the ability of Eporting in DirectX .X format and then you can just add it into Segment creator or Entity workshop or whatever and you should be ok

Note : Blender is one of the best modeling programs out there that is free, but is a bit complicated for the Novice but would start using it than any other as it is well suported in tutorials.

DDS converter does not support 3DS import, only Bmp, Tga, Png,DDS, Jpg, Jpeg, Psd, Jif, import and export, unless ther is some sort of plugin or feature that i have not found

But i would still grab a copy of this free nice tool as i use it a lot and saves a lot of time in converting supported formats.

A very handy tool to have.

Hi yes this is possible. Run a search for rays beginner tutorials. It is the second tutorial in the post. I will post it here myself later but I'm getting tire work done on my car right now.

Edit - Okay, after 2 hours the 45 minute repair is done so I'm back. Here is the tutorial. You will need to run a google search for a direct x exporter for sketchup, it does not come stock with one. One other thing, if your using more than 1 texture per model, you need to have them all in one file location, nothing in the texture line of the fpe, and the entity must be dynamic in FPSC.

I use the tools on the download page of FPSC to get mine game ready, but some people here have made some great tools as well for this.

feel free to drop me an email if you need help. email button is below this post.

I think the terminology might be confusing you. 3ds is a model format. Dds is a texture format. You apply a dds texture to a 3ds model. And export the 3ds model as a direct x model. The dds stays a dds and goes in the same folder as the newly created direct x model. You can also use tga images as well.
